sick of where i walk my dog!
Sick and tired of my dog walk, people letting there dogs off when the dislike other dogs, the walk I do have a lot of blind bends ive done the walk for nearly 14 years now and lately its just got worse for people who are careless, it makes me worried to walk my dogs its a mile walk, I usally do the mile then a mile back, an elderly man with a lurcher lets his dog off when he sees you he does get his dog on the lead but if by chance one day he goes round the bend and me and my dogs are there that it, it will really hurt them, his dog has already gone for every single one of my dogs, made contact with two, this is when his dog was on his lead and ot lunges forward slips out of his hand and goes for them ive moved over into hedgerow so he can get past but still it does it best to bite them and im getting really worried as my 14 yearold springer spaniel isnt very well at the moment, theres also a man with a staff and a cairn terrier which dislikes other dogs and he lets his dogs off that dont like any other dog, is there any law against letting a dog off that goes for other dogs?

Re: sick of where i walk my dog!
I think you'll find there is a law. As far as I know if you have a dog in public it must be under your control. In my view (& it is only my view) if a dog has excellent recall and doesn't pose a threat to others then it is under control. If it's off lead and its recall is crap then it isn't under control !
You could either try talking to these owners and explain your concern or contact your councils dog warden and explain the situation

If it's a danger on the lead then I guess the same applies as above. The dog warden is probably the way to go so that he can have a word with them.

Re: sick of where i walk my dog!
it's more a training thing to be honest. tessa came from the rspca and was very very dog aggresive but we have worked really hard with her over the nearly 3 years we have had her and she is great with other dogs now.
but there are too many dog owners out there for who the training ends as soon as they have stopped them crapping on the kitchen floor.

I agree with Ian, the dog warden's the place to start. They could insist on a community order to keep the dogs on lead and muzzled at all times in public.
Yes, dazoldo, training would be ideal but it's nigh on impossible to get some people to even perceive there is an issue with their dogs, never mind get them to actually put in the effort needed to retrain them! Sounds like you've done a great job, though.

Will do thank you ian, and hes an elderly man so I dont know if he will do the training, the dog has got worse at first it seemed okay withother dogs then it started lunging and now its started biting, but hopefully I can speak to the dog warden and he can askthe man to muzzle his dog hopefully anyway

Re: sick of where i walk my dog!
Is there nowhere else you could walk with your dog that was a little
more peaceful and safe for you both? Or perhaps a time of day when
you know they won't be out and about.
To be honest if it were me I would avoid these people and their dogs
and keep mine safe. Even if the dog warden does decide to do something
about the aggressive dogs behaviour it is going to take some time for
them to be trained and thats if the owners even bother. Not all people
are like you, and some regrettably think its ok for their dogs to run riot
or behave aggressively.
Hope you manage to find a way to enjoy your walks again.

Not really theres is a field but it has an open pond and my 14 year old springer will just run and be swimming as he loves water but people have died in there as there are reeds which tangle around there legs and he seems to walk it twice a day times where im always out I try to avoid his times but doesnt seem to happen, i think ill have to shorten my walk and walk them more times a day, im scared as he has no control and my older dogs cant be operated on as he has has a heart murmur unfortunately
Thank you lizzie

Re: sick of where i walk my dog!
If your dog like mine is on lead then its under control. pisses me off that lazy f***s let dogs off lead and then expect everyone else to fall into line. number one rule, dont let dogs approach an on lead dog. number two if you cant call your dog back it shouldnt be offlead so stop blaming everyone else for your failings. number three, my dogs will play hardball, not wanting to hurt but if you have a small dog be aware of that fact

Well when I see people with another dog I put them on a lead as you just never know how there dog is, and the elderly man lets his off and it bites it amazes me and then he puts it on a lead and its lunging and bsrking, showing its teeth and growling, its horrible

Re: sick of where i walk my dog!
Hi Hannah, iv had this problem with 2 different dogs attacking my Gordon who was on a lead!!, it makes me so angry that people just don't have the manners to put their dogs on lead when they see your dog is. Do you drive? if so could you take the dogs out to somewhere quiet? I really feel for you as walks with your dog should be a pleasure. I would report him hun because it sounds like only a matter of time before his dog injures someone else's dog xx

Re: sick of where i walk my dog!
Hi tracy, its frustrating isnt it, and I have always really enjoyed my dog walks until lately, I do drive but ive done the walk now for nearly 14 years and its a great walk, I do take them to the country side and the beach when I can which they love but the only other place to walk them isnt very big and I think its unfair for them to suffer because of him, I have reported him yesterday and they said the dog warden will send out a form, I was on the cricket pitch today throwing the ball on a rope for my dogs and I seen him with his dog he was a good way away from us, he had his dog on the lead and another man had a jack russell and a dachsund the lead going past him and it lunged for his dogs, it needs proper training, thank you for your comment and advice tracy :-)

Re: sick of where i walk my dog!
Some people just have no clue! People ignoring the on-lead rule is one thing that always rubs me up the wrong way. Pru is generally very well behaved around other dogs and her recall is brilliant but if we see another dog coming towards us on a lead I always put her on hers just in case. I think its common decency!

Re: sick of where i walk my dog!
I knew this old bloke who waffled on about show me a bad dog and I'll show you a bad owner after meeting my Staffy and then said he couldn't bring his own JRT out into the park as it would attack everything and had to walk it elsewhere. He lived right next to Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage too- what a waste. I agree about getting the warden off his backside and doing something. You see some real sights on walks don't you.
Re: sick of where i walk my dog!
Haha typical! And yeahh you see some crazy stuff one woman has an akita it has a harness on and she has a long lead on it , it just drags her everywhere the whole walk she cant control it at all, I seen her nearlyget dragged to the floor the other day haha

Re: sick of where i walk my dog!
It so annoys me when people let their dog come over to yours when you have it on a lead. Mines always on a lead as she isnt good with strange dos.
I remember one time we were on holiday in the lakes and walking her along a lovely river walk when a huge sort of great dane type came lumbering over,, we couldn't see an owner and so we stopped and was shouting hello hello to try get the owners attention. When he eventually surfaced my husband said oh hello,, could you call your dog please ours isnt good with strange dogs,, he said ohhh he means no harm just wants to play,, "sigh" Yes i can see that,, but our dog dont want to play lol. Then when we finally got past he said ,,we live here anyway!!! Like we shouldnt even have the nerve to walk our dog in his village haha
