Not wanting to walk
I seem to be having a lot of trouble getting Meg to walk from my house. She has a harness and an extending lead. Nothing is too tight, she has not been spooked at anytime but she refuses to walk. I have to carry her for a good five minutes and then she will happily walk, on and off the lead. Friendly with all other dogs and people. She will also walk back home and in fact, knows the way already.
She is 13 weeks old and I take her for no more than 15 minuted walks. Any suggestions?

Re: Not wanting to walk
Ah they can be stubborn little beggars. My Flo is nearly 9 and does this which results in me carrying her. No mean feat I can tell you.
We generally tell her we are going weather she likes it or not & that usually works. We have also resorted to going in a different direction which has worked too. One thing you could try is to take Megs favourite toy with you and play as you walk down the street making it as fun as possible. As silly as you might look, if it works happy days

Ah so it's a common thing! That actually makes it quite funny. I'll try the toy trick. Thanks for the quick response. Saved a vet visit

Oh yes you are not alone quiet a few others have experienced this. I've never been able to figure this out, I always thought all dogs wanted to go for a walk

Re: Not wanting to walk
Our Gordon does this at times and he's 18 months old!!, you could also try a few treats to entice her or as Ian says her favourite toy

Re: Not wanting to walk
Yep common problem Harri didn't want to leave the house for a walk and would run home at the first opportunity just persist with toys and treats while walking and she will come around to the idea that walks are fun.
cheers
