We have now done something hard (plus a bit...)
At the end of last year, one of the dogs at Danaher had a litter of 5 pups. 4 have been rehomed, but little Millie is on hold for the moment. She was born with a deformed spine - she has no tail and some of the vertebrae in the pelvic area are fused. There is nothing the vets can do - she will either grow as normally as can be expected and lead a relatively normal life, or she will deteriorate and have to be pts.
She needs to go into foster so she's not spending the next 2-3 months in kennels, and so she can more about more naturally, and also so she can be taken for hydrotherapy. Lots of avenues have been explored but no one has been found to take her... you can guess what's coming, can't you?
We're not ideal. Chaos and Nola play very rough and it will need careful management to make sure she's not caught up in something she's not up to. But, as there is no one else, as long as our two get on with her, it looks like she'll come to us until we know which way things will turn. Nola is fine with puppies but Chaos hasn't really met any, and he's sometimes worried by small wriggly ones, so it's not certain yet but I'll take him over next week to meet her.
Just as a taster, though, this is little Millie
and this is her mum

Re: We have now done something hard (plus a bit...)
Thank you, all. I know it's a busy weekend at Danaher, loads of bookings to meet animals, so I won't take Chaos till next week, currently planning on Tuesday. I'll let you all know how it goes. Just in case, though, I included some puppy-friendly food in my next Landywoods delivery.

Jet a quick Liz.... just looked at the landywoods site..... how much in weight do you feed your dogs daily and is this one or two meals a day as I know some people just do one mealLizP wrote:Thank you, all. Re: We have now done something hard (plus a bit...)
We feed 2 meals a day for adults and 3 for puppies.
That's puppies, as in more than one. As in, for example, 2. Like the 2 puppies who took up residence in the annex yesterday...
We had a situation whereby we needed to move our other puppy, Marty, off site asap. As Millie was coming here anyway I suggested that we take the two and keep them in the annex together until Marty finds a home (hopefully that won't take long). They're having a great time already - their favourite game seems to be 'ripping up the puppy pads'.
As for me, I'm like a pig in poo (not puppy poo). I adore training and now I have 2 little blank canvas minds to work with. After just 24 hours, they're both already much better about not jumping up for attention and about mouthing. And as for the list of other things we've started on already... it's just too long! Don't worry, nothing too much for little puplets, more things like not being scared of the mini-carpet cleaner (Millie) and Marty's slight food aggression.
Fun, fun, fun!

Re: We have now done something hard (plus a bit...)
Good or lucky? I feel I'm the latter. I'm sure these dogs give me heaps more than I give them.
Amanda, there's a section on here about raw feeding with some good information. There's a link to a feeding guide here:
https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/t60280-raw-meat#925030. I'm not very scientific in my feeding, I'm afraid, and their meals are often made up of stuff other than just the bagged meat. In other words, I'm not the best person to ask!
