Hi,

I have been researching different food options for Millie recently and have looked at the advise page for dry foods on here but was wondering what people use? I'm open to the raw option but am unsure whether dry would be good as well.... for training purposes etc.
There are so many different sites telling you their product is the better and prices vary radically so any advise from you guys.... as you use it rather than sell would be greatly received.
I was recommended symply but it is pretty pricey (we'd go there if we had to but want to weigh up value for money and quality of food).

As novices we were recommended bakers from the rehoming centre which we have been using but have since heard its like feeding a child smarties all day.... which explains things lol

Well i use wainwrights millie (well did) before i had to let nico go ... its a great food and healthy but there are various great brand foods such as james wellbeloved, wainwrights etc but its really down to what you can afford as it costs me £38 for a 15kg bag which lasts 4 weeks

Hi Amanda, I used Wainwrights to start good quality mid range food readily available at pets at home reasonably priced too. At the moment I switched to barking heads as Wainwrights did not agree with Harley and it is a very good food too. There is also James well beloved which is very similar to Wainwrights. hope this helps. Beth

I'm currently using Hills Active Dog but she loves Eden dog food, both dry. I've tried her on raw but she doesn't particularly enjoy it

Usually just heart, tripe or meaty bones hun! Just mixes it up a little and good for her teeth with the bones etc. Not every meal, usually a few times per week.

We tried a few things with Flo as she is a very itchy dog and have settled on Wainwright's wet (half a tin) topped with James well beloved kibble for dinner and just the kibble for breakfast. She's still itchy but not as bad.

The wet is really just to give her variety as she will get bored with dry alone.

Tried loads of food as my two have sensitive tums, all the expensive stuff was either ignored or pucked up. the * stuff didnt give them the energy and they shed pounds on the work routine. they both work very very well on purina working dog food. i suppliment with kronch pemmikan before a run and also give vetzyme b + e. when they have a hard day i also suppliment with either raw eggs, raw beef mince, tuna in brine, sardines in tom sauce or salmon. they have muscled up real good and pull like trains

Chaos is trying to come to terms with the idea of dogs not liking bones... Surprised

If you do try the raw route (I feed raw), there are some good bones options to try, including chicken carcasses, veal rib/neck, that are easier to eat and might be more tempting. Have a look at Landywoods:

https://landywoods.co.uk/product-category/fresh-frozen-meats/

They also do natural treats, but we tend to use dried sprats as training treats. I get them from Zooplus.

Feeding is a minefield, and I think you're doing the right thing by looking into it all carefully now, rather than just picking up the prettiest bag from the pet shop (I kid you not, I know someone who feeds their dog a certain brand because she likes the packaging)

We decided on JWB ocean fish. It's the only feed she's had since we brought her home. She's never left a kibble yet and we use it for her frozen kong.
This link may help you decide.

Raw.

Treats = absolutely anything. Rupert loves it all.

Sometimes I make my own liver treats - dogs go berserk.

food recommendations please Empty Dog food for 14 months old staffie

Post by russfry Sat Jan 17 2015, 14:18

I have a 14 month old staffie who is now 17 kg. When younger I fed her either James welbeloved or wainwrights, but now feed her raw food from the butchers. I feed her approximately 400 g per day. Is this too much or too little as she seems to always be starving and searching for food? She eats her din dins in seconds.

Please let me know what you feed yours.

Many Thanks,

Russ
