Ooo scary turkey neck
Ooo that was a bit scary - First time I've given a raw turkey neck to Milo. He's had raw chicken wings & loved them so when I had two turkeys this year he got a bonus of some raw necks and the other bits of offal.
So Milo had this turkey neck just now and he loved it. It didn't stop me feeling anxious and worried to bits watching him crunching through it and swallowing the sinews and stuff - but he was fine.

Re: Ooo scary turkey neck
I worry about him all the time poor lad but try not to let it show lol. Just taken him for a walk on the green opposite our house and he found a skinny cooked chicken bone - managed to get it off him tho & he got a cheese treat instead whilst I threw bone down the drain. There's a Kebab/Chippy just round the corner & we get all sorts chucked down on the green and for some reason people are leaving piles (I mean piles) of dog kibble which is very odd but which isn't so bad but it swells up when wet and goes rotten ugh.
I really have a hard job steering him away from all this 'bad' temptation

Ooooh what a lucky chap! We have a neighbour that chucks his cooked chicken bones and other food crap out his front door, the amount of times I've had to pull Bane away as he's spied them on a walk! Takes the pee!

Re: Ooo scary turkey neck
There's also the salmonella problem on the raw skin and the bugs can be passed on to who they lick afterwards. Persoanally i wouldn't do it.

Only cooked ones as they splinter, raw is fine.

Re: Ooo scary turkey neck
They have a digestive system that is set to deal with scavanged days old rotting crap passing it through real quick. a fresh turkey neck should be fine. some dogs have delicate digestive tums like my two but its soon shat out and then its onto the next meal. even then they have eaten thrown away chicken at the side of the road with no ill health lil gits. its a real nightmare having sensitive dogs that are bloody pavment hoovers... i can almost smell the result as a half eaten kebab disapears in miliseconds... do feed them honest!

Re: Ooo scary turkey neck
Usualy a wash and then a few hours in the freezer is enough to kill off that. most poultry in the uk is vacinated against salmonella these days but it never hurts to err on the side of caution. i personally dont feed raw except treats as its a real ball ache working out the daily feed. have heard salmon is a good feed for working dogs but i aint that rich to keep mine going on that lolStan and Holly wrote:There's also the salmonella problem on the raw skin and the bugs can be passed on to who they lick afterwards. Re: Ooo scary turkey neck
Fair enough. I remember feeding these things frozen and raw to guard dogs and always felt they deserved better.
Re: Ooo scary turkey neck
Bane loves his raw food a lot more than biscuits and that includes all things like necks, carcasses and even chicken feet!
Luckily Bane doesn't bury his food for later! I watched my parents staff bury a rabbit in the back yard and then went digging around there a few days later He likes his meat ripe obviously!

Re: Ooo scary turkey neck
I've tried chicken feet with Stan and he didn't like it, just left it on the floor. He adores liver and bacon though.
A woman who works in the local Asdas said when her grandson visited her Staffy would take his bone out to the garden and bury it until the boy had gone and then go and dig it up again with mud all over his face and a very satisfied grin.
