Help please
After our trip to the vets on Saturday and they gave her Metacam for her arthritis we need a food that we can guarantee she will eat every day as the meds is in a liquid form and she has it in with her dinner. She can be such a picky eater at times, she has arden grange but with either a sardine or a bit of wet food mixed in with it,some days she will just pick at it then other days she will eat it all.the vet stressed she must eat all her dinner other wise the meds could effect her kidneys long term, any suggestions on food that she will eat would be great

Re: Help please
If she likes the fish then i'd mash that into a paste and then give her that with the metacam mixed in it first, anything else is a bonus. My dog Toby had metacam and it helped with his back legs becoming thinner. They were like turkey drumsticks afterwards. Had him for 18.5 years. Holly also went on metacam at about the same age as yours. Fortnately they weren't fussy eaters. Sometimes that can be just part of feeling their age a little, but they'll have their up times too so they'll eat it eventually. Maybe a little rice and chicken? Toby was one for pasta and meatballs.
Re: Help please
My Flo can be picky with kibble but she will always eat the kibble with Wainwright's underneath Stella.

Re: Help please
If only we could talk to them
Not sure what else to suggest Stella, if ever I have trouble getting Flo to eat I just have to offer her Ham and the lot is gone.

Re: Help please
Marmite? We used to melt a little marmite in warm water and pour it over Mung's food when he wouldn't eat it with meds in.

Re: Help please
If it's just a case of getting the meds in, try mixing them with a little melted coconut oil. Food wise I can't help, sorry, we had the same problem with our old boy.

Re: Help please
just read up on the leaflet that came with the meds, one side effect is loss of appetite ,goes after the first week, bad enough to get food in to a dog when in pain but to add problems with side effects, this is going to be a long week

Re: Help please
How about mixing some of her food with all of her daily meds, throw in some natural yoghurt and freeze it in a kong?

Re: Help please
You might try soaking her favorite treat in with meds. If there is something she eats every time that's what I would try. Not much help as I've never had a fussy eater before.

Re: Help please
It might sound slightly odd but have you tried hand feeding her or raising her food bowl higher off the ground? Maybe a little diced ham and a touch of cheese with a drop of the meds on each piece, as long as it goes in that's what matters. Like the rest of us dogs get depressed when they don't feel too great too.

Re: Help please
Whenever Rocky has been ill the only food he will eat easily is Chappie, I know it is not the best quality food but it was even recommended by our vet (who are very good) as it is easily digestible. May be worth considering if all else fails.

Re: Help please
Fantastic, once she feels a bit better she'll probably get her appetite back too. Well done.
