Not doing that again...
We popped along to a husky meet today! One of our friends invited us, as a local kennels allowed them to use their enclosed paddock for a couple of hours of off lead fun time!
It sounded like a good couple of hours to let off some steam and make some new friends...well it definitely wasn't what I was expecting! I thought maybe 10/15 dogs tops, turned out there was probably closer to 30 or more!
Overall it was a mostly nice hour or so for Bane to have a run around and get muddy with some friends he hasn't seen in a long time but I don't think we will be attending something like that again. Some of the dogs were very rude and being one of the last to arrive, I think Bane got a little bit picked on. There were a few scuffles here and there and although it was nice to meet some new dogs, I think it was all too overwhelming and stressful for us both!
We have had a lovely quiet evening though He has crashed out and is giving some very nice snuggles!
A photo of just half of the dogs! Oh how pleasant he smelt when we got home!

Re: Not doing that again...
It took a Husky to toughen up Stanley a bit, if you can rough it with a Husky you can rough it with anyone.

Wow lots of dogs, bound to be a few grumbles
It can be a fine line between protecting them and allowing them to gain confidence in socialising. Ledger was let loose in flyball yesterday with one of the matriarchs of the team at one point he went to charge upto her and I did the natural call him away more as I would not like it happening to him and was told to leave him to it as Maddy would well and truely tell him off if he crossed the line and they ended up doing some quite close change overs with no issues running at each other nearly nose to nose

Re: Not doing that again...
Glad he's getting on really well Jules It is hard to trust them to sort it out amongst themselves sometimes, especially if you aren't 100% sure of the other dog and if you know yours can be a bit of a pest which Bane definitely is
I think just from the first introduction to them all and seeing Bane's poor little face, I went in to over protective mode for the most part. He is confident in social situations, I just think 30 dogs was far too much! He's had fantastic play times with 4 or 5 other dogs before with no problems Who needs that many friends anyway

Re: Not doing that again...
sibes are nutbals and there is a reason they are in an enclosed space. they are working dogs at heart and play real hard and fast nipping and pulling at legs and necks. its almost like a constant power jostle. i have two sibe cross staffs so they give as good as they get. excercised right they are great dogs but if not they get a lil frisky. today mine pulled me 4.5 miles on the bike, pulled me another 3.8 miles on foot two hours later and then another 2 miles tonight. if they got away from me they could be +8 kilometers away in less than twenty mins... and people ask why i dont offlead them...

Re: Not doing that again...
Very true, my cousin races them in Aviemore and has about ten of them and has to dominate every one of them. The Husky i meant kind of joined us one day when his owners wanted to stay in the car and left him on his own, he sort of adopted us that was that, since then he's been a good pal of ours and plays with Stan but as you say can be a bit frisky etc with anyone else. I always remember when he ran along with Stan all teeth showing in fun and then Stanley opened his coconut head and his mouth/teeth were as big as his. Ever since then Stanley's confidence has grown and matured and he sticks up for himself properly now, never pushy but will stand his ground etc if pushed.

Yeah Nathan hence the 6ft fencing around the whole place! And wow they are very lucky to have you!
We made really good friends with a dog walker who has 3 herself hence where the invite came from. Bane gets along great with themt, struggles to keep up at times but he tries bless him!
Inez you should have seen the state of him when we got back Some of the puddles were as deep as he is tall!

Rupert and I found ourselves in the middle of a French Bulldog convention in the park the other day - Rupert found it very unsettling and we left. There were millions of them.

Have you got a Photobucket account to upload your photos to? When you've uploaded them to there, if you click on to the photo you want to post and to the right hand side of the screen theres a section that says "Share Links" with Email & IM, Direct, HTML and IMG below it. Click in the box to the right hand side of IMG. It should turn yellow and say 'Copied'. Then start a new comment on here and hit paste and you will get something that looks like [URL =lotsoflonggobbeldygoophere[/ URL] Which turns into a photo when you hit send!
