Swimming! Empty Swimming!

Post by suzieJ Fri Oct 03 2014, 09:22

Franky (5 months) is going to start swimming lessons next month at a dog hydrotherapy pool. We have to register first and get our vet to sign a slip of paper saying he has all of his vaccinations.

I now he will love it as he loves going in and out of the paddling pool and diving around the hose pipe when it is turned on.

Lucy (1 year) is a different kettle of fish as she doesn't even like getting her paws wet and will not go near any water- except in her drinking bowel.

So... the critical question is; do we sign Lucy up as well ???

I'm thinking at the moment that Franky can go first, and if/when he is enjoying himself  then we will try taking Lucy. Both will be able to go into the pool together and there will be a trainer as well as my son in the pool with them.
"I will not be going myself as I don't want Lucy to detect my unease"

I just want the best for my dogs  confused

What do you think ?

Suki doesn't like the water either. I tried forcing the issue a few times but no luck. I'd see if Lucy could just watch and see if she decides to join in.

I think your plan is probably spot on. If Lucy see's that franky is comfortable and confident in the water, then she might well follow his lead. Swimming is great exercise for them Smile

Hope they love it. Murphy had to have hydrotherapy following an op but he hated the swimming and so he used a walking roller in a tank instead. I was told that generally staffs dont like it as their front ends are so heavy, they're unbalanced in the water.
