Pointing??? Empty Pointing???

Post by peppa Sun Sep 21 2014, 19:08

When peppas outside on a chase she sometimes freeze in her place smelling the air and folding her front leg. It looks like she's concentraiting. Some guy with a Weimaraner told me even your staffy is pointing and mine won't!
I don't have a clue how gun dogs/ pointer actually point and what kind of dogs fold their front leg before going on a chase. Sounds familiar to anybody? I don't have a picture of pups doing it but ill try and catch it next time.

'Lady' does that as well

with her i reckon it's more she's sensed something ..
and is on-alert ready to move quickly in whatever direction
i don't think it's 'pointing' like gun dogs .. could be wrong though :-)

Bob lives with a Hungarian Vizsla and she has been pointing from an early age. Maybe she copied him? He also does this perimeter trot along the side fence / shrubs when coming up from the bottom of the garden. She does that too.

Rocky also does the pointing thing usually when he has seen or heard something off in the distance that seems very interesting. I think it's quite common for most dogs to do this at some time.
