Re: Break stick
Another touchy subject.
Some people swear by them, others (me included) find them cruel and often no good at all! I have actually seen a dog's jaw dislocated by one. If you're on your own, they are almost impossible to use! Even if you have someone to help you, holding two fighting staffs still so that you can insert the stick into the correct position behind the front teeth is easier said than done!
The best thing you can do is to socialise your dog as much as possible and correct any unwanted behaviour when it occurs.
If you are unlucky enough to have a dog aggressive staff (and I've had one, so has gem), then keep it on a lead whenever there are dogs around!
Another problem with a beakstick is that (depending which area you live in) the police will consider it a dangerous weapon!

Re: Break stick
Why would you want you, if you think your dog is going to get into trouble use a muzzle its less hassle and costly

Re: Break stick
You'll be fine. Moo is a resue and a little angle, you won't ever need a 'break stick' with correct traning and socialsation. When she is finally home you'll see! They don't fight like you think x x

Re: Break stick
I dont think I would have the confidence to use one
Just hope I never have to witness another fight only seen one that nearly finished me off, I am a very responsible owner and beleive if you have a dog aggresive dog it should never be let of lead were it cannot be controlled

There are some staffs (less now, than 20 years ago) that are extremely dog aggressive, that's just the way they are & no amount of training or socialisation will change it! Bandit was a complete b**ger with other dogs, like your boy - and yet he was gentle as a lamb with people especially children, the elderly and disabled. I just never let him off lead near other dogs. He never seemed to mind particularly & just seemed to prfer to be with us anyway!

Re: Break stick
She'll be fine when she is home with you. Is Naomi another Staff? Just an idea, you walk Jemini at the shelter, maybe you can carry on taking her up there and walking another when she is finally yours

Re: Break stick
I think if you have never used a break stick before, it would be unwise to try. Things go wrong so easily, even to people who have experience using them. It's just not with the risk of serious injury in my opinion.
As others have said, staffies are not the fighters that they are made out to be. Most staffies do NOT want to kil other dogs on sight. As with any breed, you do get exceptions, like gem's boy and Caryll's bandit that just will not tolerate other dogs, but most are fine

Hmmm to be honest i think i will have to disagree there. Staffords actually are not dog friendly on the whole like some other breeds, i think the exceptions are the ones who do soacialise extremely well like my Kaos or your Charlie. Im not saying they want to literally kill every dog in sight but .......... x
