tilly showing dominance, should I be concerned? Empty tilly showing dominance, should I be concerned?

Post by possle Sun Sep 14 2014, 23:34

So were out for a big walk with my sisters two golden retrievers, always off leads. Happy as a dog would be
Tilly is perfectly fine with dogs, owners arent keen on staffies round our areas, she can run, play, sit next to random dogs all day long, but there was a young puppy flopping about off lead (I have no problem with this) she came sniffing and jumping at tilly, to which she knocked this puppy over, gave what seemed to me a stern growl and stood over it, to which the puppy stopped and walked away. Hopefully I read the situation right and tilly was basically saying to pack it in, dont jump on me etc etc.
Its the first time ive seen this with her so thought id ask.

Thanks all

Yup I think you read it right. My Flo has done this. On one occasion I was a little concerned but the owner of the puppy said let them be, the puppy needs to learn what is socially acceptable.

I would of course be on hand to pull my Flo back should she get too rough with any dog.

Bo tried to dominate an enormous black bullock today. He marched up to it on his flexi lead and when the bullock lowered its head to see what kind of creature was approaching Bo thrust his own head over its muzzle and wagged his tail furiously. They stayed in that position for about 10 seconds, unmoving. Then Bo licked the bullock's nose and jumped from one side to the other, wanting to play.
