where to find deaf staffy?
Hello
I am profoundly deaf. my first language BSL (British Sign Language) so please excuse my english writing. I like to ask question please. Are only white staffy deaf or other colours can be?
My voice sound is not good. I hope find small deaf staffy as companion so we communicate well signing. I try email some breeder but they offend if I ask if they have any deaf ones. They reply they only have healthy ones, but did not mean offend.
I wonder where can I find deaf staffy? I don't mind if older rescue that already know some signs and good walk on lead or I don't mind start from puppy.
Thanks

Re: where to find deaf staffy?
I would say rescue centers would be your best bet!
However Ledger was more responsive to hand signals than voice commands when I got him from rescue so it's certainly a method of communication that can be used with any dog

Re: where to find deaf staffy?
Hi & Welcome from Flo and me
My Flo is deaf, this is due to a TECA operation rather than being born deaf. We rescued her from a dogs home some 2 years ago. She is great with hand signals, the only problem is getting her attention first.
Deaf dogs can come in all colours and the best way to find one is through the many rescue centres though I don't see that you actually need a deaf dog. A hearing dog could help you by alerting you to noises like the door bell etc

Re: where to find deaf staffy?
Ah that's cool
TECA = Total Ear Canal Ablation. She had this done by her previous owners due to recurring ear infections. Weather the ear infections could have been treated differently I don't know. She is an adorable girl full of love and the lack of sound doesn't bother her apart from when other off lead dogs sneak up behind her and startle her.

Re: where to find deaf staffy?
I am excited for the little deaf Staffy that is destined to be rescued by you!
And I am fascinated to hear about whether you end up having a different relationship with him/her than with a hearing dog.
