Chloe being sick
Chloe has not eaten since Sunday night when we started her new feeding regime... Putting food down for 10 mins and removing it again...
Earlier I tried to encourage her by adding a little tomato ketchup which she loves, she ate 3 mouthfuls and is now being sick....
Is this the new feeding regime or is it anxiety caused by the new pup ?

Re: Chloe being sick
Poor Chloe, I wouldn't have thought the feeding regime is making her sick, I don't know what to say about another pup as I don't know, how is she now? Is she drinking plenty of water?

Re: Chloe being sick
No she's not drinking as much as normal either... She has gone to my bedroom now asleep on the bed.. Put pup in the crate to give her a little me time, but he is screaming the place down lol...
She is very spoilt and i'm wondering if she's feeling a bit left out cause everyone is picking the pup up, my girls are worried about Chloe grumbling at him. Will see how she is and ring the vet if it continues

Re: Chloe being sick
I've only had the one so really can't suggest anything, I woul inclined to be more worried that she isn't drinking. Keep a close eye on her, as you said she may be just having a sulk. Hope she feels better soon x

Re: Chloe being sick
Dogs will not starve themselves unless something medically wrong but you have to be more strict this isn't fair on either of them they both need to learn their place is well below you and your family and she can not pick on him and vise versa but seriousely tomatoe sauce the amount of acid in that you might as well give her vinegar.
Keep an eye on her but don't fuss over her other wise its just another way for her to get attention. and she will lap it up, completley ignore her for a few days and pretty soon she will learn this isn't a good way to get attention.

Just been advised by the vet to putting 2 teaspoons of ketchup will not harm Chloe, and may encourage her to eat

The fact that you said she loves it means she has had it quite a few times before i am just worried about it causing ulcers

Re: Chloe being sick
Make a very weak broth by boiling chicken and pour a little bit over her dinner.
Do this for a few days to a week and add less broth till there's just food in there.
I find this good because it hydrates them while encouraging them to eat.

No she don't get it regular, we know she loves it because if we have anything with ketchup on ( hot dogs, chips ) etc, then she will go to great lengths to get a bit...
Ketchup and cheese are her Achilles heel lol

Cheese would be alot better than ketchup, you could try cheese paste, or many other users have used tuna.
but i wouldnt cater to her wants her needs yes but not her wants as i said dogs will not starve themselves. if you could/would don't offer her any food for the rest of the day and maybe tomorrow morning she will soon realise that food is vitual and she should eat it all up and not be picky.

Re: Chloe being sick
You could try giving her some boiled chicken and rice. Its plain so shouldnt upset her stomach.Vets reccomend it after operations, etc.
keep an eye out for dehydration if she is being sick and isnt drinking much either, especially in this weather. The signs of dehydration include dry sticky gums, lethargy, lack of skin elasticity, sunken eyes etc. Please let us no how she goes , i hope she is feeling better soon ><

Re: Chloe being sick
She is still refusing both food and drink, and it is really hot here...
Spoke to vet again just now, and if she doesn't drink by 6pm the vet will take a look at her..
She is okay in herself, nose wet and her eyes, skin etc is fine....
She is going to pup now and sniffing him, maybe we are turning a corner

Re: Chloe being sick
If she isn't drinking, then I'd get her to the vet. It may be nothing, but you can't take the chance.
As to the tomato ketchup, I personally wouldn't give it to my dog, but I can't see that a small amount would do much harm.

Re: Chloe being sick
Hope you've turned the corner now.
Maybe it's a bit of "green-eyed-monster", but it's hard to tell when they are off their food and not drinking as much. Sounds like you are keeping the situation well monitored and knowing your vet is in the wings will hopefully lessen the worry for you. Keep us in the loop ><

Re: Chloe being sick
as already said i would only be worried about the not drinking and re the ketchup a little will do no harm as a dogs stomach acid is a lot stronger than whats in that for breaking up bones

Re: Chloe being sick
Just rang the vet back to confirm 6pm appointment she advised putting water onto a cotton ball and wipe it onto Chloe's mouth......
Just been on the floor fighting with her, her water bowl and a bag of cotton....
She HAS drank a little, still going to vet tho cos things don't feel right

Re: Chloe being sick
You have done all you can, don't fight with her it will only make her hotter and her body cells more active, needing more energy and fluids. Let her lie quietly, with one eye permanently on her (just like you do with a sick bub). I'd be more inclined to wet a face washer and wipe over her lips when she is calm.
How much longer is it till 6pm over your way (11.30pm over here in Ozland). Hang in there. ><

Re: Chloe being sick
A good thing to have is a small syringe for wetting there gums or having a mix of soft food mixed with water onto there gums.
Hope she will be ok.
(Nice picture Janey btw. )

Re: Chloe being sick
Just back, she's fine she has got herself so stressed with the pup.. She drank a little there because pup was at home and she wasn't as anxious... She isn't dehydrated yet, however if it continues she will have to be put on a drip...
Just made her dinner up regular wainwrights with tuna mixed, she's sniffed it and left it, so Blake is going to crate for half an hour to see if we can sort her out

Re: Chloe being sick
Aw poor Chloe. It does sound a little as if she is throwing her toys out of the pram over Blake's arrival. Hopefully when she realises that he isn't going anywhere, she'll perk up again.
Keep us updated on her progress.
Re the fussing over her that MissRogue mentioned, I agree that you shouldn't mollycoddle her too much in reaction to her acting up, but I think a little reassurance from you that Blake hasn't replaced her might help. We've just got a kitten. and Charlie has spent the last few days shadowing my every move and sitting with his head in my lap. I've been giving him a little extra fuss so that he knows I still love him and it hasn't turned him into a spoilt brat - she may just need to know that she still has a place in your heart

Re: Chloe being sick
Her dads just took her for a run, while I stay at home and do some Blake training sessions lol...
She is very highly strung and hates not getting her own way, she also hates being told off which has happened a couple of times due to her unwarranted grumbling at Blake..
On a plus note she hasn't grumbled once today, and Blake seems to have learnt to keep his distance.. We have just had them both playing ball on the floor without incidence yay

Re: Chloe being sick
Just going off if you had a dog and a bitch in season the dog sometimes will not eat or drink for up to 3 weeks this seems to me to be rather similar only that your girl is stressed by the arrival of the puppy. But as your posts go on she seems more relaxed on every post you make so keep going as you are and see how it goes there is nothing wrong with doing a little extra for her at this time hope she adjusts soon

Re: Chloe being sick
It may be a few things going on with her she may have a slight tummy upset along with stressed at the changes to the family if I remember rightly my girl (holly) wouldnt go near my boy when he was a baby and used to jump on the couch then he couldnt come near her. And duke just wanted to cuddle up to her and when he did she would look at him as if to say oh my god hes touching me and she would very slowly get up and move and poor lad would roll over she went off her food for a while too but after a few weeks they were best freinds and still are after 9 years together

Re: Chloe being sick
She's arrived lol...
Late today, fed them both dinner... He was eating his, and she refused to walk by him to get to hers. Took hers to her and she has actually had a good feed and drink, played ball, then gone back to lay down. It's such a hard life being Chloe...
Seems strange she wouldn't walk by Blake tho, maybe she's accepted him as an equal already, she also allowed him to play on the floor with us without a grumble, but he was not getting her ball, no way lol

Glad she has picked up somewhat.
I just had a thought when you mentioned Blake was already eating his. As ours always eat at the same time as each other, I give Kita her bowl first then Izzy, same with treats, basically as a respect thing for Kita as she's been here the longest, not sure if it would help They both know who is boss though

Re: Chloe being sick
Put Chloe's down first, but had Blake on a lead to stop him running to her's while I put his down if that makes sense . Due to this she refused to walk by him to her's, so he was eating before her, but she was fed first
