Sad Ohhh loki...

Post by freyj4z Mon Aug 18 2014, 21:30

As I mentioned in a previous post loki is having some confidence/anxiety issues, it is probably all my fault, but he is super attached to me, I am home every day and only pop out to go to the shops, I spend most of my day with him and I focus alot of his training etc, as I said he screams when I leave and he's been left with someone else for a short period of time, he is so desperate to get to me when I come back,

tonight I've put him in his crate in our room and he started breathing really fast and shallow
,pacing his crate and not settling I let him out and he settled underneath the bed on my side.

I managed to coax him into his cage by himself with cheese, and he lied down but started stressing again when I got into bed

I sat in front of the crate with my back to him and he calmed down, I've gradually moved away and no stressing, I'm about to get back into bed and see what happens, I'm just completey ignoring him.

I feel so awful that it's more than likely my fault,

Maybe you could try putting him in his cage for short spella during the day perhaps hes associating the cage/crate with being naughty someone else might be best to help you as i dnt like the crates.

Well, he was in a crate with all the puppies and the mum when he was younger and we haven't used once since, we used to use a pen and he used to go mad when we put him in it every since day one.

Loki is extremely attached to me, and I don't think it helps that he can jump on the bed, because he always comes up and sleeps right behind me. I was hoping with the crate it would give him his own space to sleep in, and separate him from me, I don't know whether to take him out now he's calmed down or leave him.

Should have mentioned this earlier but have you left an article of clothing with your scent on it in the crate?

You're doing really well. As J says an article of clothing with your scent is comforting to them. Keep at it Smile

I set it up all comfy today, and he's been sniffing it, and going in and out, but still not sure.

I wouldn't put any clothes in with him. If he chews it he may become confused as to what he can and can't destroy.
You've got to make the crate a good place, try putting his toys in there or maybe a frozen kong and shut the door.
Pete.

He's got his toys in there and his stag bar, I've given him treats in there, I left the Kong at my friends house and I haven't got it back yet!!! I'm gonna get it back this week so I can start using it again, although it might be time to upgrade it.

Good he was in it all last night, keep at it Freya, I always think they like their own place to feel safe in; encourage him in during the daytime too with treats and toys and leave the door open.
