Re: Bi polar
Yes. Spike Milligan suffered with manic depression. It would be classed as bi polar if he was alive todaySteve wrote:i'm sure they used to call it manic depression before they call it bi polar

Only people who have suffered this terrible illness can understand what it's like. So difficult to talk openly about it

Re: Bi polar
yeah I've come a long way these last few years since I was honest with the doctor and asked for help! Like col I have actually suffered since my early teens, I don't have bipolar, just the depression, I don't get the mania. My aim is to get off the meds now and control it like you do xxInez Maria wrote:It does take time hun but you will get there, one day its like a light being turned on. it is, I never discussed it with anyone, i had convinced myself I was crazy and if I told the doctor how I felt I would get locked up! Sounds so silly now!shegsy wrote:Only people who have suffered this terrible illness can understand what it's like. So difficult to talk openly about it

Re: Bi polar
The problem being, people put a face on and hide it within themselves. Acknowledging the problem and getting help is a start.
Saz just what you have done - is good. My depression started in my mid twenties and got help. Have managed it over the years but always seems to be there in the background x

I didn't know that, I thought bipolar was when you have the mania followed by depression in cyclesbuddy boy wrote:Just to say you do not need to have the manic and the depressive you can also have one,

I don't see this as a dark convo, but an adult discussion about mental illness. we are much more open here talking about it, no different to breaking a leg

Re: Bi polar
What makes you sat that Claire?
saz inez and I have probably forgotten some
you are doing great knowing the signs are good so you can be aware of what might be happening.
Steeve is something you have in your genes, it normally shows its ugly head at puberty, birth, and the menopause. This are all hormonal times if some one is predisposed to BP.
BP depression at child birth is known as peripheral depression and only pertaines to people who live with bp.
Of course people get the PND,
lots of love to you all who either live with it or live in the shadow of it.

Re: Bi polar
I think more people suffer from this than anyone would realise. Had heard that Bill Odie was a sufferer and not sure if this is why he was pulled out of the Springwatch series, I hope not.
I have also from depression for quite a while, it had been undiagnosed for years until I went to see a new doctor when I moved home a few years ago. Got chatting and it all came out, thankfully she is a great doctor that I can chat to and now have medication for it.

I know about these thing Buddster. There is also a type of PND called Puerperal Psychosis which can often result in hospitalisation for the Mother for hers and the baby's safety. You can also have BP and have only a couple of manic episodes and the rest depression.
