Oscar's sentencing
So Oscar Pistorius will be sentenced on Sept 11th. Just a little ominous.
His uncle walked out and told Sky News "he just wants to get Oscar ready for the next olympics now"

No Ian, they did away with it many years ago due to apartheid and racism.

Ah ok I can understand that I guess. So it's all down to one Judge then ?

Yeah, all down to the judge and her assessors. Apparently if she thinks he's not guilty, for example, and the assessors do, then they win majority vote. But the sentencing will be left to the judge. Apparently her taking a month to decide isn't too bad
Would you believe Oscar went home and started tweeting his thanks to everyone for supporting him

Re: Oscar's sentencing
So she doesn't decide on her own.. Makes more sense that way with the assessors else I could have seen a lot of people escaping justice.
Wonder if they have sentencing guidelines like our judges do.

Re: Oscar's sentencing
What sort of guidelines Ian? Tbh I have no idea if once she passes sentence that's that or there's more to come. I still think he could walk free.

Re: Oscar's sentencing
Here they have mandatory sentences for Murder etc and minimum terms for other crimes. Sometimes these rules don't work as the sentence doesn't really fit the crime but at least they have a starting point I guess.
I think you're right, I don't think he's going to be locked up anytime soon. If found guilty, can he appeal ?

FOUR times...once is a warning or an irrational mistake, but 4
And do you know someone bought that house last week and said they thought listening to the case that it sounds like a safe complex and he will retire to that house...but his wife says otherwise. Omw

They should've, shouldn't they. I think it'd be a little wrong to live there...knowing you bought the place to fund his trial too

Re: Oscar's sentencing
if you thought you had an intruder in your house would you not make sure the people you love in the house were safe before you started firing a gun,he's so guilty and any one that finds him not has been paid off, sorry just my view

Re: Oscar's sentencing
I feel sorry for him in so far as he seems to never have had proper friends or even proper family support. But that's where my pity ends. He really go involved in the wrong crowds.
