food recommendations to build mass Empty food recommendations to build mass

Post by BellaandCrumble Tue Aug 05 2014, 18:57

Hello all. I am a newbie so please bare with me. My post hasn't shown up!!!! I have two female staffies and I am concerned about their size. Their weight is fine in guidelines but they have no mass. I feed them waggs biscuits and they are exercise d for an hour a day with running, walking, fetch games and rope play. This hasn't helped at all and people even mistake them for being puppies around the year old Mark when they are intact nearly three! I can only put it down to their diet. They get the correct amount a day and I have tried feeding more but still no joy. I'm Looking foe reccomendations to build mass and good quality food. Price isn't as such an issue and I'm happy to pay good money for food that will keep them happy and healthy. All advice and tips are greatly appreciated! Thanks

Wagg isn't a very good quality food to begin with, try something from the recommended list below with any changes being done gradually over the course of a week - 10 days to avoid any upset tummies.

A change to a good quality diet can see a change in a dogs physical appearance as well as improvement in behaviour too, (I'm not suggesting your dogs are not well behaved but simply stating in general). I'm not sure what you mean by building mass, but a healthy diet will produce a healthy dog.

Try more exercise too, maybe two hours walking per day and see how it goes.

Not on the laptop so not great for sticking the links up at the mo but there are plenty of discussions in this diet section rule of thumb is to get the best quality that you can afford you really want the main ingredient to be meat if you are feeding kibble

P@H will sometimes give sample bags if you spend some time talking to the staff about the best options for your dogs

You may just have lean dogs Ledger isn't the broadest but is fairly well toned but that's just from normal daily exercise.

Personally I feed raw and again there is a good section on here, certainly not as complicated as I expected, can be quite cheap depending on where you can source your meat and it's much better for his digestion

Staffords come in all shapes and sizes , why worry about their mass ? As long as their healthy happy dogs I can see why mass is a issue . I believe muscle mass in our Staffords is genetic and there's nothing much you can do to change that. Just enjoy them for what they are , don't worry your a owner of the best breed on the planet and you should be proud of that  it wasnt me

Can we see a pic off your dogs?

I feed my dogs acana or orijen and I'd say that's one off the best dry foods, orijen maybe even the best. My Brody is 8 and a half and once I put him on orijen about 6 months ago he put on more muscle and looks great. But orijen is very expensive, my puppy I's on acana Pacifica and she's doing great on it but its about £65 for 13kg

But they there's feeding raw that's even better, I feed raw at weekends for a treat.

You wont bulk the dog by just changing food, it helps but only with a good exercise regime. I use working dog food as it as a higher protien content. just be aware it also has a higher energy hit so if its not burnt off they will be bouncing off the walls.
And some dogs just wont bulk at all. my female eats more than my male, trains exactly the same as him, is as strong as him but is a good few Kilo's lighter and skinny as a rake.

Its taken Moo about 5 years to fill out - and her muscles are still developing - sometimes i takes time and sometimes they just don't, wouldn't worry about it Xx

brody i think im going to go with orijen, i went on there website and it seems the best, im giving my puppy eukanuba dry food with a spoonfull of wet food at the moment, im very tempted to change her to orijen, do you think i should mix it with a spoonfull of wet food or just give the orijen hard food as it is?

ps. not easy to find the orijen dry food
