Off to the vet for planned spay.
Thankfully the nasty infected uber-itchy rash cleared with steroids and anti/b's so Pink can have her planned spay op today. Had the pep talk it may be a tad more complicated as she has had so many litters and she may need to be in for longer if she bleeds more than expected. Our Vets been brilliant. He has arranged to an extra dose of dog chillax drugs before she has the pre-op and will wait till she is very relaxed before the pre-op stuff. Hopefully that will make her feel less anxious and therefore she will be less reactive as she comes round.
The vet knows her history so the vet nurses have been warned to be extra careful as she wakes. They will ensure her muzzle is clear and she is in a safe place for her and staff as she comes round. I have left her blanket that smells of home so its less of a strange place with metal sounds. I have asked for extra pain relief as I suspect if it hurts a lot she might be very off. Fingers crossed she is as good as gold but given the amount of times she has seen our vet of late hopefully she will remember he is the good guy who is trying to help her.
I am off out to buy her a nice soft toddler duvet and a couple of spare cotton covers so she has something soft that is less likely to stick to her incision to snuggle in. Then I will pick up a chicken from the butchers so she can have slithers of cooked chicken to nibble at this evening.

Re: Off to the vet for planned spay.
Hi all,
The op was nice and straightforward. Poor girl was just plain sick coming round from the anethesia drugs so the vet gave her anti-emetics by injection. He gave her an additional boost of pain relief on top of the NSAIDs as she appeared to be in pain after being sick. Took my younger son with me and we carried her back to the car and then carried her into the house. Pink was so stoned on pain relief she could barely manage a drunken walk so we carried her. Yeah gods is that dog heavy!
She absolutely went totally mental over the cone of shame to the point we all decided she would be far safer NOT wearing it. She ended up wearing a fetching t-shirt tied up by her bum instead.
Managed to persuade her to nibble some chicken bits and three spoons of dog recovery food. Poor lass was so whiney and fretty last night I gave in and slept on the floor beside her. She is looking brighter this morning but still well and truly stoned. She managed to eat the rest of her recovery food and has slumped down on her new duvet. She is refusing to step outside the house so I expect today will involve cleaning with buckets but I think she pulled a few muscles by being sick on top of having an incision so I am sure she is rather sore. Only had three half hearted attempts to try and lick stitches so for the next couple of days and nights its going to be gentle distraction.
She has a follow-up appointment booked for next week but for now she is in her bed properly asleep and wuffling unlike last night when she was just plain bombed and keening.

Took mia 3 days to recover she never ate any food till next day. Was a very slow walk upstairs for me bless her and she never touched her stitches either.

Great idea to use the T shirt instead of the cone, this may also help her to feel more secure, like having a constant hug I'm sure she will be back to herself in no time.

Re: Off to the vet for planned spay.
Def bounced back this morning, madam managed to sneak past me and pulled the 'wall of death' race for the sheer joy of racing round in my garden a few times. Silly girl was limping a bit afterwards
So much for the vet telling me she must rest this week- I do not think Pink bothered listening to that bit.
