Swimming
My 2 have suddenly decided they LOVE swimming and dive straight in. Lola has always been a little bit stiff, but since she took to swimming she seems a lot less stiff. Does anyone know if swimming could have helped?

Re: Swimming
Swimming is a wonderful exercise to do for anyone, as the water puts no strain on the joints.

Re: Swimming
Thanks Kathy :-) I knew it was good for humans but dogs swim differently so wasn't sure. At first they splashed a lot but now they kind of glide (I don't let them swim where it's too deep for me to go in and get them though if necessary!!)

Re: Swimming
Yes Jo, it's good for dogs too this is why hydrotherapy is used for dogs returning to exercise from injuries.

Re: Swimming
It would've most definitely helped her! Best exercise for both dogs and humans if they have joint issues, are overweight or need rehab from injuries.

Re: Swimming
We live by the sea but Bacchus won't swim. There is a little harbour in our village and I've tried throwing sticks in but if they go beyond chest depth he won't go any further unfortunately as I'd love to have him swim. I had a GSD many years ago who was the same until he fell in, then we couldn't keep him out of the water.

Re: Swimming
Most staffs don't like swimming because their front ends are so heavy and they need to paddle their back legs twice as fast as evenly weighted dogs. When Murphy needed hydrotherapy he had to have a harness in the pool - still hated it but it helped him after operation.

Re: Swimming
Thank you everyone, really appreciate your comments I don't swim very well or even like it, so I wasn't 100% sure when I saw them hurling themselves in like mad dogs
