to beach or not to beach!!!
I took loki to the beach today and he hated it....wouldnt go in the sea, had to stay on the lead, as they wernt allowed off and I didnt realise that, he hated the train and got really funny about getting on and off!! Im thinking of taking eli again and I dont think I should take him again, maybe I should just take loki for a big walk in the morning and go to the beach in the afternoon without him!!

Aww bless him, I've still not taken Daisy to a beach as the coast is quite far away from us, definitely plan to at some point though

Re: to beach or not to beach!!!
Biscuit hated the beach for a while! I took her to Dawlish and she sat scowling with her back to the sea lol!! Went to Kingsbridge last week though and she came in the sea with us and loved it!! Didn't want to leave took me 2 years to get her into the water though. Maybe take him with another confident dog!

Suki won't go near the water but loves running around on the beach. We go in the off season though so it's cooler and less crowded

Re: to beach or not to beach!!!
We are at the beach nearly every day. Stella loves digging and when she gets too hot she goes in the sea for a paddle. Was all of the beach restricted? We have separate areas of the beach where dogs can run freely. Don't give up as can be great fun

Yeah I'm in North Plymouth hun Right next to Dartmoor! But head to Torbay for beaches. If you can get to Kingsbridge Slapton Sands is dog friendly all year;

Re: to beach or not to beach!!!
Ah I was living in Exeter working at the RSPCA there until December last year, but ended up in Plymouth as my OH has lived here for years and missed his friends lol! Slapton is about an hour from Plymouth, and about the same from Exeter, but well worth the drive

Re: to beach or not to beach!!!
Ah my OH is from Tiverton.. I'm from Redruth so it's the Cornwall equivalent Which rescue is that? I tend to help out Devon Dog Behaviour Rehab & Rehome now, though the RSPCA in Exeter really is brilliant, they're under the RSPCA umbrella, but self funded and run their own guidelines for rehoming

Re: to beach or not to beach!!!
Ahhh really aha its the last chance hotel, they are fantastic and save lots of dogs, just really dont have alot of support, ahh thats good I tend to shy away from the rspca and bigger well known rescues, ive heard too many horror stories. I really want to work with dogs,im doing an assistant vet nursing course in septemeber!! Its always something ive wanted to do, but having my son has put things on hold alot.but now hes starting school im ready to be on hand and help out as much as I can

Re: to beach or not to beach!!!
There's good and bad with every rescue, but ultimately their goal is the same, pressure is different. The first place that I worked at was an inner city rescue centre and used to take in 80-100 dogs a MONTH, mostly stray bull breeds. We tried to work with other rescues and advertise the dogs as much as possible, but ultimately we couldn't rehome 100 untrained bull breeds a month before the next load came flying in, and no other rescues would help us out and take them, breeding is what kills dogs, not rescue centres hun. RSPCA branches are different to the head office.. Most are under the RSPCA name but have different values, the workers in the kennels are just like us! I know the Last Chance Hotel, again there's good and bad with each one.
Oh cool, kennel work is great for handling experience if you could put some time into that, I did it for 5 years before qualifying as a trainer. Lots of vets in Devon too!

Re: to beach or not to beach!!!
Yeah thats fair enough!!! I think it just breaks my heart so much It always makes me just want to rescue them all but I know I cant, ahhh I didnt know that, thats useful,
I wouldn't even know where to start for kennel work, of where to go etc!! I tried to research, but I couldnt find any near me that were taking on and the rscpa ate doing some renovations so arnt taking on any more people, I think its hard to pass too much judgment went you havent lived through it!! Im desperate to start just finding somewhere

Re: to beach or not to beach!!!
Mine too, it's horrible. I don't work in kennels any more, but still volunteer and foster when I can.
I know a few kennel hands have recently left the RSPCA and they're looking for full time staff, not sure about volunteers though. What in particular are you looking for?

Re: to beach or not to beach!!!
Well my son is in school 9.30-3, I have a driving licence just dont own a car at the moment, I just want something based in kennel/dog training! I wonder what hours they are wanting, I can also work evenings as well, because I can put my son in after school club and he is in nursery all through the summer
