choosing a staff
Hey all I'm new to the site great to see such a great place where you can find out about the breed from experienced people... I have a small bit of experience with staffs and I would love one... I'm lookin for a forever friend and lifetime companion so I think a staff is the best choice. Great size and personality.. I'm gone roughly 7 hours a day 6 days a week and I don't want to bring a pup home if that would be a major problem. Jus asking advice on whether they adjust to that kind of lifestyle or what my best option is... He will be walked twice a day and exercised but still I want to ask people who have dealt with these situations for there opinion? Thank you

Hiya! I've moved this to chat so that you will get more views. If you would like to come and introduce yourself that would be great! You can do that here;

Personally, I think a puppy being left for that amount of time wouldn't be a good idea. Pups really are a full time job to ensure that they're socialized, trained and stimulated efficiently! Would you consider taking in an adult stafford? There are thousands put to sleep daily in rescue centres, and so many of them would be great family pets if they were given a chance. If you wouldn't like to rescue, there are also pure bred stafford's that are returned to breeders as adults due to various circumstances, so you would know the heritage of your dog and have papers for them, but would skip the puppy phase.
I rescued my girl from Bristol Dog's Home nearly 3 years ago now, and she's just wonderful. Clever, affectionate and gorgeous to look at, just as good as a pup from any breeder IMO

Re: choosing a staff
Yes an adult rescue rather than a pup would be better as you work full time, but with the right dog and plenty of exercise it can certainly work

Re: choosing a staff
Taking on a puppy requires a lot of time and patience, personally I would also recommend an older dog. Rocky was 9 months old when we adopted him from a rescue centre, luckily both hubby and me work from home so were able to give the time needed for him to settle in with us.
Three years on and we have a stable, well socialised, reliable Rocky dog who's training continues every day to some extent. You will need to be able to put the time in to achieve the results required for this breed of dog.
