Weather hot!
Just wanted ask people my 9 month pup is struggling a bit with the heat regarding eating and exercise.I usually feed her 3 times a day and she gets 2 40-45 min walks a day plus playtime in garden.Does anyone else have the same issue with heat regarding they dog and what do you suggest with eating and walking?

Re: Weather hot!
We try to walk Suki during the coolest parts of the day. Her appetite never changes though so her meal times remain constant. Indoor activities and mental stimulation also help in the summer

Re: Weather hot!
Hey! Yep, there's a thread already going in the staffy chat section about heat and walking.
At the moment, Bug is having a 60 minute woodland walk/swim at either 7am or 9pm (depending on work) as well as a toilet walk on lead around the block. At home she's sunbathing in the garden between lying on the kitchen floor to cool down! Feeds are being frozen into a kong and fed throughout the day, as well as banana/coconut kongs/ ice blocks/ frozen marrow bones. She's been playing with the hose to cool down today and friends are bringing their dogs over to play in the house/garden. She doesn't want to do much though, she really struggles with the heat

Re: Weather hot!
Axl struggles with the heat as well, we can't walk him at the moment but when we can it will be early morning walks and regular toilet breaks. We live in a flat so we haven't even got a garden for him to lay in so I put the fan on him which cools him down nicely. I keep his water bowl full as well. He's still got a good appetite though

Re: Weather hot!
As it's hot most of the year here ours struggle too! We keep them busy with early morning and later walks and play in the shade, make sure their paddling pool/shell is always fresh and full and give them loads of icy treats from plain ol' ice blocks frozen in tupperware bowls to frozen veg, frozen yoghurt and that sort of thing Cooling mats, cooling collars and keeping a damp cloth down for them to lie on all work a treat too.

Re: Weather hot!
Bugs never been off her feed before.. Sure there's nothing else going on with her? I would probably just say feed her at the coolest times in the day and if you can freeze her meals into a kong perhaps?

Re: Weather hot!
In our Summer it was sitting in the low 40's most days on end, we fed Koda nearly everything frozen or semi-frozen, still had kibble with sardines mixed in but frozen, and stuffed into Kongs and things so he'd sit down and try to get it out rather than running around with his balls etc., froze tonnes of things like watermelon, tuna, even bones
