Nasty Bull Bar Splinters !
BE CAREFUL EVERYONE !!! - Bought Milo a lovely looking Bull Bar from P@H for £8.99 - good reviews etc., He already loves his stag-bars to bits - half hour into the chewing I found these nasty hard splinters on the carpet. Really really sharp - it was sooo scary. One sad Milo now looking dejectedly at the shelf where the bull bar has been placed well out of range.
Surely this can't be safe - I'm so disappointed !!

Re: Nasty Bull Bar Splinters !
Thanks for the warning. We were planning on getting one when our pup was older.
I've only heard good things about these, I wonder if anyone else has had this.
Pete.

Re: Nasty Bull Bar Splinters !
Good thing you noticed them. They do look nasty. Is it back to stag bars for you then?

Re: Nasty Bull Bar Splinters !
Definitely is - they were sooo sharp. No way could I let Milo have this and risk anything him he's too precious.
I'm taking it back to P@H to show them - they're not cheap so I'm hoping they'll let me exchange for another stag bar. Can but try. I've also sent the pics and an email to the people who supply them so they're aware.
I'd be interested to read what other experiences folk have had with them - seems all the reviews are good so far but I'm worried in case someone's beloved pet will suffer because of the same thing happening.

I took it back to P@H and they were really good - money back no quibble. They apologised but it's not their fault.
I've bought him a Tough Toys Boingo Ball instead lol.

Re: Nasty Bull Bar Splinters !
Thanks so much for this info! I have now confiscated Alfie's bull bar - had no idea they could do this! Don't think he's too gutted - he much prefers flinging his kong toys around

Re: Nasty Bull Bar Splinters !
Well, I thought we'd give them a swerve but my mate gives them to his dog so I had a look. Yeah they can be quite pointy and I tried to prick myself with it but I couldn't. It's a little like finger nails. I don't think they're any worse than allowing them to chew sticks.
They have got a smell about them when they're wet though.
Pete

Re: Nasty Bull Bar Splinters !
It's difficult to know what to give them. At the moment Bo's on stag bars but I have to limit his time, he'll eat an entire 'jumbo' bar in just a few hours so I allow him 20 minutes after his meals and that's it. He'll chew up half a nylabone in a single sitting and sick up the bits the next morning - they can be sharp too but probably not dangerous.
Not long ago he developed a habit of chewing sticks on his walks. I wasn't too fussed until he sicked up literally a cup-full of very sharp stick bits one morning at 4:30am. He must have had a stomach full, there were so many. So I kept him out of the woods for a week and told him no when he went for a stick and now he barely touches them. You can't be too careful, especially with a dog like Bo who explores everything with his mouth - this week a vole (unharmed), a dead pigeon's arse, a gobstopper, a chunk of safety glass, a seriously sharp piece of bone, a dollop of cat s**t and several cigarette stubs.

Re: Nasty Bull Bar Splinters !
YEah I suppose it depends on how hard the individual dog chomps on things - Milo's a def chomper on anything. Even so I'm so glad I noticed it & I won't be giving him anymore. Stag bars are great though.
