Advice please . still having problems :(
Hi everyone
i havnt posted on here in a few months, i was having alot of problems with my staffy oscar, he was being very stuborn, arguing back and standing his ground over most ossues we were having. I sought help from a behaviourist and things have started to really improve however today hes had a naughty day it statted when he stole an item from my daughter she went after him and was tellingbhim to give but he held on tight and growled obviously i was already on my way to him and as i got close he gave it me but then protested and set up barking. My main question is how can i get my dog to respect my daughter more? I keep them fairly seperate unless im in the same room, she is 12 but smallish and cant summon a firm voice. Oscar is now 14/15 months and was neutered about 4 months ago. Im very very upset by it as i thought we were making such progress and then its reminded me of everything we have gone through already that i thought was getting better. I love him dearly and will never give him up that isnt an option really, i just want to be able to work through this with him. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thankyou Michelle and Oscar x

how about getting her involved in him a bit more, let her take the lead a bit when you go for walks, long as he does't pull her,let her give him a few treats, making him sit nicely and then give it to him

Re: Advice please . still having problems :(
Hiya thanks for replying well we have really increases the training and joined a new training class too and behaviourist also said i needed to be more firm as he feels oscar is taking the mick and really pushing it. Hes alot better really but i would love him to have a better relationship with my girl and i know she wants to spend more time with him but its like he does somthing as soon as i leave the room and yet as soon as she calls me or i come back in he stops straight away sohe must know hes not aloud to behave like that. He has more or less stoped arguing back and challenging when i correct him and listens 9/10 times which in comparrison to 4 months ago is amazing. He still mouths on occasion though especialy if gettinv himself qound up or too excited which i really hoped he would of packed in by now. My behaviourist did say to expect some bad days as it wont always be smiles and progress and there will be slips so maybe it is just that. Hes been alot better again since i just worry that im not gona get there, we unfortunatly live in quite an anti staff area too so i hear alot of negative comments which are upseting. Hopfuly if we keep working at it though we will get through it, and i love him to bits and he can be a lovely lad when hes behaving xx

Good to hear that you can see the improvement. What you need to remember is that he is still young and will push those boundaries. You just need to be consistent with your training and get your daughter to do some too. It's amazing the things the will do for treats
