My 6mth old blue girl has a limp on her back leg:(
Hi everyone,
Im really hoping someone can help me, I know that it is common for staffy's to suffer from hip problems, but it only seems to be when she lays for a while and gets up to walk around. For the first couple of minutes she limps as though she has pins and needles in her back left leg only but then she is fine and it doesn't bother her at all, but it has been an on going thing the last few weeks.
For a girl she is quite well built and pretty heavy but she is not fat at all just very muscular.
i hope this isn't a serious problem:(
Has anyone else noticed this with their pup?

Re: My 6mth old blue girl has a limp on her back leg:(
Hi and welcome to the forum. Did you buy her from a reputable breeder? Does she have KC papers? If this is so, it should show if her parents have been tested for hip dysplasia, a genetic condition that can affect staffies. They should also have been tested for a condition called luxating patella, where the knee cap on the back leg can move out of position. It could also be something as simple a muscle strain, the way she has been lying down. The only way to be sure and rule out the above conditions is to visit a vet. Also as pups, they shouldn't be overwalked in the first year as their bones and muscles are forming. The general rule of thumb is 5 minutes walking time per month of age plus 5 minutes, e.g. 5 months old is a 30 minutes walk. You can do 2 walks a day but the pup has to rest. Hope this helps.

Hi (again) and Welcome to the Forum from Flo and me
It's not something I know anything about. Seems odd that it only lasts a few mins and then is fine though. Maybe have a chat with your vet at the next check up or sooner if it's worrying you.

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. Just want to add to the importance of the 5 minute rule. If it isn't followed it can cause medical issues when they are older. To be on the safe side it's best to follow the rule until they are 18-24 months

Re: My 6mth old blue girl has a limp on her back leg:(
Oh thanks everyone:)
Yes she is full bred and came with full papers which had that her parents were clear of everything. She is very active so maybe il just try and keep her from running around so much and get the vet to check over her! Hopefully its nothing serious!

Could it be you are over exercising her? She is still young.
I would def go to vet also.

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me
Have you contacted the breeder to find out any medical issues with the dogs parents ?
It may be a trapped nerve, I would contact the vet to see what they think.
