Re: staffys to France
They will allow a registered full staffordshire bull terrier, but they will not accept a stafford cross, I'm afraid.

Re: staffys to France
he is down on his passport as a russell cross so i have paid for a passport i cant use what a joke , i have no papers for the pup even though she is a pedigree so i give up and stay here sod the French dont know a good dog if they seen one, they would probably want to eat them knowing the French

Re: staffys to France
It's this BSL policy across the whole of Europe. Why on earth the governments can't see that it's the owners that need regulating, not the dogs, I'll never understand!

Re: staffys to France
Are staff crosses banned in France? How ridiculous. I'm shocked that the BSL hasn't been scrapped yet, it's caused so much trouble.

In the late 90s they banned staff crosses and unregistered full staffs. Ludicrous, but nobody really opposed it.
FRANCE
Several breeds are now banned from importation this includes the Pitbull terrier but more notably for most travellers, all Staffordshire Bull terrier crosses or purebred dogs without papers. It does not apply to pedigree dogs ie dogs with Kennel club registration and documentation. This same ruling also applies to English mastiffs.
All these breeds and also Rottweilers and any Rottweiler crosses must be muzzled and on a lead in all public places.

Re: staffys to France
The world really has gone mad with all this rubbish. I think dog licenses need to be brought back and anyone without one shouldn't be allowed in. After all, it's the owners not the dogs that are at fault for dangerous / out of control dogs.
Guest- Guest
Re: staffys to France
Unfortunately licences didn't work before & I doubt they'd work now. All the european countries need to get together & start to punish the irresponsible owners heavily, rather than concentrating on specific breeds. But I can't see them doing that!

staffys in france
Hi new to the forum, just to say we have been taking our 2 staffy crosses to france for the past 6 years and have never had a problem, sadlly in the past year we have lost both louis and harry 14 @15 years of age.we lived in normandy for 2 years and one of our friends was a chief of police and he never said anything ,it only seems to be on websites over here that people go on about it,the french police have more important things to do with there time, also on other sites you will find that the staffordshire bull terrier has been removed from the dda in france ,hope this helps ,also the french people are a lot more do g friendly than here as harry and louis not only stayed in hotels with us but were also welcome in bars and resteraunts!!

i still dont want to take the chance even 8 or 9 vets dont know or even DEFRA , and we all know that the French changer their minds like the weather , i would rather keep my dogs than let the Frogs take them or i would end up inside, quick update Milo now has been spayed last Friday and the pup is nearly as big as him i weighed him Friday pre op 12.7 kg 3weeks ago she was 11.7 at 16 weeks old ,she still loves the banans and has now moved on to lemons the only thing she wont eat is chips little sorru big lump

Re: staffys to France
They won't take your dogs off you if they have a problem but they will ask you and your dogs to leave the country asap so your trip will be cut short

Re: staffys to France
im almost shure you can take the dog for hollidays, import is not allowed, you are not importing, the movement of europeans in the european comunity is in some sort free.
i guess that theres no problem if the dog is small, way smaller than amstaffs.

Re: staffys to France
I'm sure if you have a cross could you not just say its a jack russell or terrier cross and not mention the stafford side at all?
I know if i had to take Romeo anywhere i would tell people he was a bulldog cross as several people think hes a bulldog anyway and hes really short legged.

I would of suggested the same but they have dog passports that say, staff and staff cross.

Oh i must have read it wrong. Thats a shame. I have always considered moving to Israel but it totally put me off when i found out staffies are banned there-yet i have seen various videos of peoples pet pitbulls and staffies, so the ban can't be that strict? Large powerful dogs such as dobermans are also very popular there so i don't understand why they'd ban staffs. I was considering getting him a passport and registering him as a bulldog cross but i don't know if i'd get away with it!

holidays in france
Hi me again i am in france at the moment,i have been to see a vet and he has told me that a staffy with papers no problem. With a cross do not put sbt cross but boxer , jrt, etc ,our neighbor has an amstaff and no one bothers, personally i think its the usual scaremongering which seems to go on in the uk ,if i can work out how to upload photos i will put harry and louis photos on both were over 20 kilos and solid and no one said a thing police customs etc,in fact the french thought they were cute! so when i get back in 2 weeks i will be getting a rescue staffy and he will be coming with me to france next year ,The Govt is making the pet passport easier next year only 3 weeks and no blood test
