Boy or girl
Hi everyone!! Just joined the forum. Looks like theres alot of experienced owners on here and alot of sound advice. My family are in the process of finding a blue and white staffy pup. My question is; should we go for a boy or a girl???? Can any one give me the pros and cons of both please?? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Boy or girl
if your not fussed either way, why not go view some litters/kennels and find a dog you like, not based on the dogs gender

Re: Boy or girl
I have a girl she can be a diva and I have to admit her first season was a nightmare think she has PMT but she is the most loving, loyal girl she trained easy and is easily put in her place. I think either male or female are fantastic but Milly chose us when we went to look their were boys and girls but she was just special.

Re: Boy or girl
I find male dogs to be more outgoing, bouncy and playful. They have happy-gp-lucky temprements and are less sensitive than girls. However they can have slightly more selective hearing and need a strong leader, their hormones and will to mate and reproduce can lead them to stray sometimes.
Bitches are more loyal and have more senisitive personalities, they are a little easier to train as they dont have the instinct to wander and expand their pack. All staffords are loving and loyal to their families, it wont make much difference what sex you get its personal preference really. Bitches can get a little grumpy for a day or two during their season but this is really just due to them feeling low.

Re: Boy or girl
Good advice here, I got my older female staff because we already had a male Bull Mastiff (I'd actually wanted a black male staff, but the ex produced a 9 week BM pup) which made me a little wary as I'd read and heard it's not good to have 2 males etc.
When I went and viewed the litter she was the only bitch with 4 bros, (3 big tiger striped ones already taken, and her and her little black bro). I watched them playing and she just shone, she tolerated a lot from the bigger pups, but when she'd had enough, she sure told them who was boss!! She had the nature that appealed, but not the colour or sex and I couldn't decide until I drove down the road and the more I thought about it, the more I knew she was the one. Once home I rang them and got no answer, left a message and prayed no-one else had taken her (very sleepless night). Fortunately for me, they had gone out and not taken any more inquiries.
Had we not already had the BM, I would have taken both her and her little bro, (a crystal ball would have been good at the time, grrhhhhh).
My hubby & I got our other girl at the beg of 2010 as a replacement for a male JRT that we lost, hubby just wanted a girl after the dramas we'd gone through with him and I couldn't really argue
If I was a one dog owner I'd probably choose female again, as we will more than likely always be two then I think it has to be one of each again.
