Sad I think Debo's starting to feel blue.

Post by jola139 Sat Jun 07 2014, 09:19

Is it possible that after a month of not seeing his daddy, he's starting to feel a bit down? I'm mean, I do a lot with him but I don't want ot get to the point where he ask for attention and gets it.
He loves tug of war but I'm not as strong as my OH, so can't play with him as hard as he wants. I'm trying my best. For the last few days after playing with Debo tug of war he lay down with his head on the rope and started to cry, not a loud on and looked really upset. It makes me think that he start to miss his daddy.
I try to give him as much attention as I can. He has 3hrs walk everyday with ball/ frisbee, plus play and training at home. I work as well but I'm back just after 1pm and we go straight for walk.
Any adivices to make everything right. Don't want him to feel left out but also don't want him to think that he can get everything whenever he wants.

Sorry I have no advice because I think what you're doing is right, a good mix of attention but not overkill. It can't be easy given the situation!

It could be possible. We know that staffies can suffer from separation anxiety, but keeping her occupied like you are doing should keep the impact to it's minimum. Keep up the good work.

maybee but dont let that assumption distract you from the fact it could be something else thats bothering him. dogs are very "here and now" in there attitude to life. Saying that playing tug could be a memory trigger and not just for the dog either, if your getting down he will sense that.
try making lots of noise/excited talk to him while playing tug and see if his attitude changes.

I would say dogs live for the moment - it has been a while since OH left, just keep an eye out in case its something else - I thought Moo had a sulk on and it ended up being an infection.

And hun its not long now Xx

Oh, no Janey, I hope it's nothing else. But he seems fine other wise. I mean does sad moments last for not even a minute and as soon I give him attention he stops.
