Re: Does my bum look big in this?
I think this is the same as the jacket that I bought for Douglas:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/270989365371?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0
At 13.50 UK pounds, this is very reasonable. I noticed yesterday that the fabric may be straining though, around where the handle is located on the top. I need to look at it more closely, but if there is any weakness there, then obviously this model wouldnt be recommended. The principal things to look for in a lifejacket are (in my opinion):
What Douglas himself thinks of his life-jacket is unknown. However he's very good natured about putting it on and, when onboard, spends most of his time asleep. (So nothing different there then).

I need to look at it more closely, but if there is any weakness there, then obviously this model wouldnt be recommended. The principal things to look for in a lifejacket are (in my opinion):
- the robustness of that handle on the top. Tbh, I'm less bothered about him needing extra buoyancy and more bothered about him falling overboard in the first place. If he does land in the drink though, then I want to be able to fish him out with the boat hook. Hence the need for a very robust handle on the top where he can be grabbed. This handle is also used for assisting him getting from the launch to the yacht, so we dont want any gear failure here.
- The way that the load is spread on the body. The jacket in the link has two straps under the belly (load spread further by soft neoprene flap) and one round the neck. That satisfies me that he can be winched up/lifted without anything cutting in.
- That it does not make him too hot. There are some otherwise very good-looking jackets on the web (some much more expensive), but they have so much fabric and stuffing that I wonder if he wouldnt find it very uncomfortable in the sun.
- Finally, I woudnt go for a fashion colour in a pastel shade. If he falls over I want to be able to see him in a colour that shouts at me - so bright yellow or orange is best.

Thanks for the tips. At the moment have my eye on either the EZYDOG, Henry & Clemmie's, K-9 Float Coat or Outward Hound Life Jacket based on the these reviews . Definitely need a sturdy one so will have to look into the reviews more.
