Long leads
Just wondering, those of you with those long training leads do your dogs get all tangled up in them? I am thinking about getting one but axl likes to do roly poly's all over the place I think he'd end up in a right old tangle?

Re: Long leads
It depends where you walk with them really, I use a 50ft one with bug (who also likes to do roly polys!) and although she does get a little tangled, she generally untangles herself. I used them with Max too, but he wasn't quite so clever and would try and chew through it rather than just stepping over it! In fields it's fine, but in the woods it can be a bit of a muddle!

Re: Long leads
Yeah see that's where my problem would be as most of our walks involve woods and I can just see him spinning himself around a tree at full pelt, he's not too bright he'd probably try to keep going and end up tied to the tree.

Re: Long leads
We have a 30 foot one, but just ordered a 100ft one (Just not long enough when throwing balls!). It has a D ring on the handle end too so both ends can be clipped to Harness, so doubled up it will be 50ft.
I was worried about him tangling up, but it just goes under the odd leg which frees itself when he returns. We are mostly out in the open though. Saying that...this morning we were by a few trees and my 10yr old was hiding against one. Alfie ran up and ran round the tree a few times...one boy tied to the tree

Re: Long leads
Nel is long legged so our 50 ft lead normally ends up wrapped round one back leg but she is now used to stopping and sorting herself out before I do it.

Re: Long leads
I have a 20f and a 50f, both from eBay like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DOG-HORSE-TRAINING-LEADS-5FT-10FT-15FT-20FT-25FT-30FT-40FT-50FT-65FT-80FT-100FT-/140987430180?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Kitchen_Steamers_Cookers_PP&var=&hash=item20d3817524
Just let them trail rather than holding on then they don't get tangled x

Re: Long leads
I used to have a long lead for Flo and other than getting the odd leg caught up, it wasn't a problem. Though I did used to pull the lead in and get covered in god knows what
After that I used a long flexi but we quickly moved to off lead and just the short one now.
The flexi is good but not as easy to let go of when they decide to run round that tree five times

becasue sam had huge problem with big dogs i only used flexi leads the trick with you have to lock or lock before it becames a problem
Re: Long leads
I like them. If his recall is okay you can always drop the lead if you think it is going to get tangled.

I've got a 100ft one which I use for my dog, he's mastered the art of untangling himself. The only reason I use it is he thinks every dog wants to play with him, some do and some don't so it's my way of keeping him under control.
He can also have a good run around while on the long lead.
I'd recommend them to every dog walker.

Re: Long leads
Debs to give you a rough idea of what length to get here is Alfie on his 30ft one and his new 100ft doubled up and being used as 50ft in this area. Also to show they don't get too tangled (out in the open). Sorry about the quality don't think they uploaded well as they are great on the phone.
30 foot
100foot. Watch to the end for the outtake!

Re: Long leads
We never had much chance to get tangled after two trips out I got fed up of it trailing through poo Had a flexi for a while but just ended up working on recall he stays on lead most of the time have a 6ft police lead for a bit of freedom but rarely come across people in the park the time we walk and there is a nice almost completely enclosed orchard he can run off in.

Re: Long leads
I've got a 100ft one for Rio, I've had it a good two years. It lets me keep control of him. He's fine with other dogs it's just other dogs with him.
He's got it down to a fine art if his back leg gets tangled up, he just lifts which leg he feels the lead on and he's away.
They're well worth the money.

Re: Long leads
I'm thinking about getting one although Axl has gone from being a pain in the butt to being very well behaved off lead and we don't walk in too many places with lots of people so I may just leave it and carry on as we are
