Back to vets
Hi
Been back to the vets today as Gordon has come out in hives all over. Vet says she thinks it might be a seasonal allergy but we won't know for sure unless we have him allergy tested. She has given us 2 weeks worth of steroids, but says long term use could result in liver and kidney damage!!. There some other tablets called Atopica (think that's the name) but they are £97 for 2 weeks worth and he cld be on them for a while, I know quite a few people here have had similar problems and just wondered if anyone has tried any natural remedies?. It's so upsetting seeing him scratching and being so uncomfortable all the time. PS we are also using piriton.
Thanks Tracy xx

Re: Back to vets
I'm not really sure if it's caused by allergie, may be best to have the tests? sure others will have some suggestions, poor Gordon xx

Re: Back to vets
Sorry I have never experienced it, as Saz said sounds like you need to do the tests, fully understand not wanting them on drugs - I found an alternative to it (different condition) so I hope you can Xx

Re: Back to vets
Thanks Sazzle, we've had a chat tonight and are going to have the allergy test done, i'v also read tonight that chicken can cause allergies so we are going to take that out of his diet for a Cpl of weeks to see how it goes. Thankfully the steroids and piriton seem to have helped for tonight and he's fast asleep at the moment xx

Re: Back to vets
Thanks Steve, Peppa we did feed raw and I thought he was doing fine on it even though he's a fussy eater, but OH said he wasn't eating enough, was worried so started giving him food which we cook, chicken, ham, eggs and oily fish, sweet potato. xx

I hope you get some clear results from the allergy tests at least then you will know which direction to go in.

Re: Back to vets
Good you are doing the allergy test. Have you stopped giving him chicken? I heard many dogs are allergic to it not surprising if you think about all the hormones, medicines and god knows what else is going into it . I feed mostly raw but also burns and naturediet as back up but I think for now try checking every ingredient in his diet for few days and see the respond. I hope Gordon will be well soon x

Re: Back to vets
Thanks for the replys, have stopped the chicken and he seems so much better but I do think it's mostly because of the steroids!. I think we are just going to have to wait for the allergy test and take it from there. At least the hives have gone and he's more comfortable, they don't half worry you x
