Backfire!
Working really hard on Biscuit's reactivity as it has gone a bit backwards in the last week or so, and she's doing marvellously! However, she was doing so well today that she had her muzzle off, and was sat focusing perfectly whilst a dog passed on the other side of the road.. So perfectly that the owners decided that they would come and say hi! I didn't realise until she got THAT look and they were right behind us! As expected.. She roared at them and went up on her back legs!! I quickly crossed the road and said she was in training and they looked a bit embarrassed lol! But she did sit and focus again straight away which was good! Well meaning and all, but bloody nightmare!

Re: Backfire!
Frustrating but at the same time maybe a step forward in that Biscuit was able to focus straight away

Re: Backfire!
Haven't figured it out yet hun, Martyn has pretty short hours and is generally home by 4, so if I'm on an evening she'll only be left for 2-3 hours as I'm going to be doing shift work so 6-8 hours, if we can work it that she's only left for 4-5 hours we're going to do that as she coped with 8 when I was in kennels, though wouldn't want her left that long again. My sister is going on maternity in a few weeks though and loves Bis, so sure she'd be happy to hang out with her too! Otherwise I'm going to have to get someone to come in, but will just ask them to sit with her/play in the garden and I'll walk her myself before and after work. Don't think I could safely leave her with a walker! Gonna miss her though! Silly eh! Xxx

Silly people!
Well done bis, to calm and refocus so quickly after an upset is great though.

Re: Backfire!
Good job Bis for focusing back. In May I will work less hours, means that will have more time for Debo. So want to work on his focus too. How to do it right? He has ADHD all the time.

Re: Backfire!
Haven't quite decided which job to take yet, Debs Either going to be support work or care in the community! Very different, but much better for Biscuit and fancied a change! Thank you Kathy
Jola, I taught her to focus using the "watch me" command! I used the book "fiesty fido" by Patricia McConnell to teach this, it's very in depth and informative, great for all dogs, not just reactive/aggressive!

Re: Backfire!
I used to do care in the community, it's very hard, demanding work

Re: Backfire!
Well when I did it I never got any proper time off. I started at 7am and finished at 11 pm. Didn't work straight through, there are always gaps in between clients. Half an hour here an hour there, I couldn't rest as was always clock watching. Phone going off constantly, changing your rota or putting more clients on. No proper days off. It
Did it for 2 years and in the end it made me I'll. your probably much younger than me though lol
