I just want a cuddle ;)
ok, was'nt sure whether to post this here in behaviour or in Puppy chat........if you need to move it, go ahead.
Anyway, Roxy is now 5 months old and I just love her to bits
The thing is she is always soooooo full of life and excitable (which I know is a good thing....happy,healthy 'n all that)
I would just like for her to be able to calm down at times, enough to just sit and enjoy a cuddle and pat/stroke. She dislikes having her head touched/handled and Luuurrrrrvs to use her mouth on everything which can be frustrating at times. How can I teach her to enjoy or even tolerate having a nice pat etc....without her trying to get her mouth/teeth on my hand. As a very young pup with those razor sharp teeth it was a nightmare. I had scratches and cuts all over my hands and arms and holes in all of my pants. She is a lot better now, but still likes to use her mouth. She is NOT aggressive at all, it's just excitement I think.
In regards to exercise I have searched the forum and found a topic relating to how much exercise is enough/too much (sorry, i'm not all that bright.....don't know how to add the link, if that's how u say it in techno terms ) and I think I am giving her enough exercise. She usually has a short walk in the morning (about 20/30 mins) a walk in the evening (about 30/40mins) and on weekends and days i'm not working will have another walk during the day too. She also gets loads of play time through-out, when I throw her toys for her to chase and fetch.
OMG, am I making her sound like a > ??????
I know she's only young and they all have there own personalities, but I just want to sit and enjoy a cuddle with her. Don't get me wrong, she gets plenty of love and affection but just not calm, chilled and relaxed. Hope I am making sense to you all.....I know what I mean but sometimes it's hard to put things into words.
Ok, i'll shut-up and stop rambling now
Hope somebody has some ideas

Re: I just want a cuddle ;)
billy is the same we have to practically beg him to come and join us on the settee for a cuddle, if that does not work we pick him up and he stays there for a little while then jumps down, he is fine with cuddles on the floor, but it's not the same. i think it might be an age thing as it is getting better or he is just fed up with us all now and just gives in

Re: I just want a cuddle ;)
Bandit was always up for a cuddle, as long as he was tired! Otherwise, he'd end up chewing any part of us he could reach - the only ones he never chewed were my 2 kids!
Dempsey has always liked a cuddle when he's tired! Up until about 9 months ago he'd sit on a lap & look as though he was relaxing, but would then suddenly launch himself into a rough & tumble game which involved teeth (his) on limbs (ours) and bouncing off the backs of chairs/sofa so that he could climb on our heads!
Now he's 2 years old, he'll actually come looking for a cuddle, but as I say, that's only been for the last 9 months or so!

Hmmm don't know what to suggest to help. As Bruno is 5 months (21 Weeks) but he loves his cuddles and will fall asleep on your lap or if you lying on the sofa he will lie beside you and go to sleep, but thinking back to when we first got him, well the first week we didn't pick him, he slept in bed in the crate during day between puddle and logs as we didn't want him on the sofa's but now he rules them but from the second week we had (we've had 14 weeks on sunday) he's been picked by my children and me , so he was cuddled and kissed lots from a 8 week puppy. yes he was very excitable puppy too, lots of scars from the razors Bruno is just very laid back, plus i am home most of the day except for school run or school stuff or when we go shopping.
But i hope you find a way to get a relax cuddle from her
would ignoring the exciting behavior work, then fuss her when she is relaxed or would she just get excited again ?

Re: I just want a cuddle ;)
trust me,as they get older the cuddles idea is very appealing. Now he is nearly 12, Jethro LIVES for cuddles.. he is always on the lounge smooching and lying on us, making funny contented noises.. Winston is like most of the pups mentioned I will be stroking him and he is lying there all still and loving it, the next second he has launched himself at my hand and yes there is blood again! I think puppies don't know how to do anything if it doesn't involve their sharp teeth!!
