An oscar for Oscar?
So who followed Oscar Pistorius' trial today? Acting or not? I think there are so many holes in his well rehearsed story. In saying that, the moment he described finding her was just gut wrenching.

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
he seems to be back peddling but I guess your local papers have a much better on the trial than us

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
It sounded a little too well rehearsed to me too, I guess he is the only one who knows what really happened that night and we can only surmise

So true Kathy - we'll probably never know for sure.
Bren, you're getting it exactly as we're getting it - we do have a 24 hour channel but I don't have that on my tv subscription so I am watching it via a news streaming site (and getting very very little work done this week).
My heart breaks for her mother and the family she lived with here in Johannesburg.

Yes Oscar deserves an Oscar. Her poor family having to watch him lying about their child

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
He deserves a standing ovation for today's acting!!!! So unfair on her family!!

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
So unfair They looked so very angry and annoyed earlier in the day - lots of rolling eyes and shaking heads

Exactly, if your partner was not in bed with you surely you would assume it was them in the bathroom not an intruder!

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
i know! hes an dodgy bloke i would never fire on someone behind an door or whatever it was that just pain stupid! you need to see who you shoting at first becasue if its an love one or friend you never be able to live with yourself again
Re: An oscar for Oscar?
Exactly! But when he said he woke up and she asked him if he couldn't sleep, then he went to fetch the fans and heard a noise: how do you not realise your loved one who you were just speaking to has gone to the loo? And he said he heard the toilet door shut.
You know, his being overly-concerned with security is a way of life here, and his shoot first look later is also a sad way of life, but I still don't buy it for one minute. Not one!
Let the prosecution (who is nicknamed the pitbull) at him.

Oh wow that was good - the prosection's turn and Nel stood up and Oscar said "I made a mistake". Nel said "A mistake?! You killed Reeva Steenkamp. Say it. Say I killed Reeva Steenkamp."

That's for sure. I love the way it ended this afternoon. And all this guy can do is blame everyone else - even blames his legal team. I reckon they've given him enough rope.

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
No we don't. What I've read though is this judge is one harsh lady so that's about the only consolation.

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
Let's hope. They say the probability is 15 - 25 years. I'm sure prosecution is fighting for life, and I did read that in a similar case this judge gave a guy more than 200 years. I'm not actually sure what his defence is going for, I'd imagine minimum?

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
let hope he get life.... i do feel sorry for him i think having no legs made him like this.. i know other people are who are the same and are normal but it effect people differently
Re: An oscar for Oscar?
I hope they throw the book at him! He did it IMO without a shadow of doubt!! Xx

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
I've been using this one Bren http://enca.com/oscartrial/
You press play on the middle button around 9:30am our time (so 8:30am your time) and they switch to court as the judge walks in.
This site (www.news24.com) also does live updates and I think they have a live video feed when court is in session

I know the news channels didn't show the graphic image yesterday, thankfully. I was watching live with my mum though when it flashed up and stayed on court screens for ages. Very, very sad.

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
No idea, Steve - and next weekend is Easter, then we have 2 bank holiday weekends in a row and 1 May is a holiday so it could be bloody ever. As glued to it as I am I felt today like the judge should just stop it and lock him up
The defense said they still have about 15 or so witnesses to call after Oscar. I'm getting no work done

Oh yes and 7 May will be a holiday as we it's national elections on that day. Look at the Shrien Dewani case - took 4 years to get him here and that's postponed for a month already.

Not really sure - I remember the mental health problems, not being fit to stand etc stories but didn't follow it that closely tbh. I do know that us tax payers paid millions for the process and he was sent in a private jet. But at the same time, I understand that reasoning too. Is that home close to you still operating?
The whole small world thing, hey! That place where Oscar let off a shot at a restaurant - it's a very upmarket office and shopping place (can't stand it ). I once worked in offices there for a little while and guess what, the OH's new job will be there. I told him he best not go to any of those restaurants since clearly they're very relaxed about guns "accidentally" going off

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
the human right act it's on of these stupid things the uk has made where everyone has an right doesn't matter what a person has done becasue they have a right...
Re: An oscar for Oscar?
we need to scrape it but the only way to get out of it would be us leaving the EU
Re: An oscar for Oscar?
Wow, I called that one right! They will land up adjourning until May after all our public holidays. And on it goes......

Re: An oscar for Oscar?
Heck! I can't bear to watch him crying 'crocodile tears'. It seems to me that people in SA want a guilty verdict
