Is my pup ok?
Quick question - the last two mornings there has been some mucus in my pup's stool and it has been very loose. Both times this has been near the end of his walk and he's already been to the toilet (with completely normal stools) 3-4 times each morning. I have been watching his toilet habits very closely the last couple of days because of this and he seems ok - maybe straining a little at times, and certainly on the last one with the mucus in it. What was slightly odd was yesterday when I went back to see him at lunch he didn't go at all and I would normally expect him to.
His food hasn't changed recently so I'm not sure what's up. It's maybe completely normal and i'm being a bit paranoid but I would be grateful to know if anyone else has had a similar experience.
Thanks, Jamie

Perhaps he's got an upset tummy, try feeding him scrambled egg or chicken and boiled rice

Re: Is my pup ok?
Should he not be wormed every 3wks or so as a puppy?

Re: Is my pup ok?
puppies should be wormed monthly until they're 6 months old then every 3 mnths. if he's ok in himself I wouldn't worry; pups get funny tums sometimes.

Re: Is my pup ok?
Thanks for help everyone. He's only 12wks so he will need wormed again in a week or so if it should be done monthly. I've also ordered some prokolin.

i wouldn't worm that much, i wouldn only worm that amount if they eating poo a lot outdoors
Re: Is my pup ok?
Right I'm not buying the simple upset tummy I'm afraid. Same routine again this morning: three times he went for a poop in the space of about 30m and the last was just mucus and a bit of blood. Only seems to be in the morning and he must be emptying out his whole gut! Any ideas?

Hey, what are you feeding him? Sounds a little bit like an allergy or an infection. Could even be colitis, is he okay in himself? One of my client's dogs has normal 1st motions and really loose motions with goopy stuff ever time I walk him without fail, he has had colitis from a wheat allergy (don't think his food is right for him, hense it continuing)

Hi, he's on eukanuba puppy complete, plus a few wee additions - chicken liver last night, sardines, cooked chicken...all just small amounts of whatever meat is added

And he seems fine, yeah. Behaviour is normal and he seems happy and healthy - except if it's raining and he refuses to go out!

Re: Is my pup ok?
Ah the culprit could be liver! My girl is raw fed and I can only feed a tiny bit of liver at a time as it gives her bum gravy! Xx

Re: Is my pup ok?
Thanks for the help. I would agree with you about the liver but he only had it for the first time last night (went absolutely daft for it!) and this problem has been happening for a few days. He's going to the vet after work tonight anyway just to be sure.
As for the rain, yeah he's a nightmare! Pretends he's asleep and all sorts of other avoidance at going out!

Re: Is my pup ok?
Hm, think it's best to get the vets to have a look. Sounds like intestinal inflammation of some sort, it's just finding the culprit for it! I've seen this in pups for various reasons; worms, allergies and even campylobacter!

Re: Is my pup ok?
my golden retriever gets this problem he has colitis and it flares up every now and then , i take him to the vets they give him some tablets and it goes dorment again.
Re: Is my pup ok?
Thanks all. Vet advised to cut out any little extras and just try the dry food for a while. If that doesn't work we're to try a non-wheat based food.
Thanks again for all the help
