Age?
Hope this is in the right section. On a walk on saturday just gone, a lovely long one which took over 3 and half hours, we met a lovely lady half way, with her old boy a rescue lab, 141/2 years old, I couldnt say how old she was, she was fit, had actually landed on her backside (as did I ), so we were both covered in mud, and she was fine from it, we got talking, she said she has always loved staffies. Lost her husband last year, and wants to get another rescue dog/bitch in, but due to her age, they are refusing to let her take in a rescue . There is a lady who is fit, and just wants to help out rescues of any age, more so the older ones to give it a loving forever home, and she is being refused...... does not make sense! Do any of you on here have a age limit? I would love to help this lady out.

Re: Age?

Re: Age?
Not sure of that, as she said she been down all routes, even the vets and they too said no! To think theres so many older dogs that have few years left, and theres a lady that wants to rescue those too, but is unable to.

Re: Age?
It does seem crazy, like you say there are lots of older dogs needing homes that would be ideal for her!

Re: Age?
The first rescue centre that I worked at we absolutely cr*p at rehoming and would put silly limits like this on, but the second one took each individual circumstance into consideration. We often met 60 year olds that could offer more, and were more active than 20 year olds so would never say no due to age. We may have leaned towards a 3+ dog rather than a bouncy untrained 1 year old however. Rescue centres need to be more open with rehoming for sure, used to get so frustrated by this!

Re: Age?
That's a real shame! Perhaps fostering is the way to go or finding a different rescue centre xx

Re: Age?
That's terrible its missing a great opportunity for an older dog to have a loving home in its final years!
Perhaps as Saz says have a word with someone here if they would consider it.

Re: Age?
Oh gosh, that is really ridiculous. I mean there are many 'seniors' who need rescuing and it would be a simple matter of matching a dog in their 'twilight' years to this lovely, spritely woman.
Maybe she could start volunteering somewhere local and when they see she is quite capable, it may lead to fostering?
Sad

Re: Age?
Thank you all, I shall get in touch with her. And Rachel is so right in saying so may 60+ years old are more active that many 20+ years olds, and they have far more patient and time for dogs. And of course the lovely lady only wants to give a older dog a forever home and have some company on walks and in her home. She ever lets her lab sleep on her bed with her, bless her.
