One of the family
Hey, just wanted to introduce Tillie, my newly adopted 12 month Staffy.
About 17 days ago, while out walking with my other dog, a Staffy came bounding up to say Hello, she was on her own with no collar and proceeded to follow us on the walk, and then to my home, where she jumped over my fence into my yard and barked at my door until I let her in, she ran around saying hello to everyone before jumping into my dogs bed and making herself at home. I contacted the local authority and the warden came out and took her to a kennel, she explained it was the easiest way for her owner to find her, she'd been chipped but hadn't been registered, so they had no details on her.
I phoned the kennels every morning for 6 days but no one had claimed her, they then explained that we could adopt her, if we we're interested, so that afternoon, I went up and reserved her, she looked so lost and lonely in that cage but because she wasn't mine, I wasn't allowed to even walk her. Next day we went back to do all the paper work etc and bring her home.
We decided on calling her Tillie and she is just a total gem! why anyone would want to part with her is totally beyond me. I have another little dog called PJ who is 6yrs, he's a Yorkshire terrier x Shitz Tzu, I also have twin tom cats aged 18 mnths. There's not been a dull moment since she came!
She's most definitely a big part of our family now, you'd think she'd lived with us for yrs, she's settled in great.
I really don't understand why people get dogs but then lose interest and don't want them any more, the owner had apparently phoned up the kennels after she'd been there for 5 days, but had refused to give any details, they hadn't even been aware she was chipped! and then just left her there, I do realise that you have to pay for get your pet back once in the kennel and people may not be able to afford it, but if my dog had been in there...I'd have done anything to have gotten him back....over those two days in order to reserve then collect Tillie...I had to get 8 buses and pay a lot of money to give Tillie a home....quite amusing actually while travelling on the buses with Tillie....the looks on peoples faces when they saw the bus go past with a staffy dog sitting comfortably on the back seat taking in the view through the window was classic ha!
My daughter still thinks Tillie picked us for her new family....maybe she did, but I most certainly feel the lucky one, I love her to bits.
