Poor Diesel Aint Too Good
My little buddy hasnt been too good and I noticed he had a lump under is chin going towards his neck..
I have taken him to the Vets and he as been diagnosed as having Puppy Strangles
She as given me a weeks supply of Anti-Biotics and I just pray that these do there job, he goes back again next Tuesday for a review. his face is very slightly swollen too but the only thing that made me feel better is the Vet said compaired to some Puppies she as seen he isnt that bad and even they all made a full and quite quick recovery..

Re: Poor Diesel Aint Too Good
Thanks Hayley.
I hadnt heard of it myself to be honest so thought I would post on here as I know it says its a rare condition but Vet said they have had a few cases of it..
Just thought it may be of help to someone one day and I will let everyone know how he goes on with his treatment..

Re: Poor Diesel Aint Too Good
Thanks for all the support its appreciated.
I'm sorry I haven't been on sooner, went back vets last night and his face is back to normal with all the swelling as good as 99% gone now.
Lump in his neck is still there but hopefully doesn't seem as big but was gutted when she told me it seems like the other nodes are starting to swell too, another near his shoulder and both back legs
He's got another weeks worth of antibiotics which she is hopeful will work but if its no better he as got to have a biopsy to see what's causing it.
Only good thing I am holding on too is he is still very playful and still full of energy and eating like an horse plus vet says his temperature is normal which she says is a good sign.
I asked her for the truth and how bad it was. She said at the moment thankfully things are good for him but can get nasty and won't know for sure until this biopsy thing if these antibiotics don't do there job this week.
So its just fingers crossed now.
He's such a cracking little dog and training wise and temperament couldn't wish for a better little dog..
Thanks again
Stu

I will now more next Thursday when he goes back the vets.
I don't know if its wish full thinking or what but it does seem like the first ( worst lump ) as gone down a bit in size.
I will try and upload a pic of it before and one of it now to show you.
Thanks again

Re: Poor Diesel Aint Too Good
Sorry for not updating sooner but its been a bit up in the air..
He was due to go back the Vets last Thursday about his neck etc but at the weekend he took bad with a very bad ear infection.. So we ended up going on the Monday regarding this and they then said this could have been the cause of the lumps (Lymphs) swelling up and stopped the antibiotics and put him on a course of Steroids for a week and we have had to go back today..
I noticed just after a few days the difference in him and his neck going down even more, been back today and great news he as been given the all clear now
Gave us some more Steroids but only one every other day now over the next ten days and they said they don't want to see him again after that
He was weighed while he was there and he is now 12kg and Vets said things are great, also had him Micro Chipped today while we were there save making another trip with him..
Thanks for all the support and well wishes it was appreciated...

Re: Poor Diesel Aint Too Good
Thanks Ian..
Hopefully matey yeah, Vet says one of his ears canal is smaller than the other and this could well be the cause of the infection but did say that some Staffs are well known for this, and to just keep cleaning this ear with cotton wool, and hopefully as he grows it will sort itself out as 99% of them do..

Re: Poor Diesel Aint Too Good
Ah ears ! ... Flo has had problems with her ears, before we got her, and has had a TECA. That is the extreme of ear canal issues, but hopefully you'll never have to worry about that
Having said that, I wouldn't change my girlie cos it's so funny being able to sneak up on her

No no.. It really is funny
Here's the odd thing though... She knows when someone pulls up on the drive before I do!!... I swear she has that sixth sense thing.

Re: Poor Diesel Aint Too Good
LOL
Like you say could well rely on other senses to compensate..
I know this may sound daft but one of my mates is deaf (got mumps when he was two so knows no different) but when the dog barks he knows..
I asked him once how did he know and he said he can feel the vibrations

Re: Poor Diesel Aint Too Good
Yeah, Flo hears vibrations.. We tried a regular dog whistle but soon realised she couldn't hear that, she can hear me boom at her across the park. So the vibration thing does fit. Am now looking at a whistle at low frequency to save my voice
We decided to buy her a vest that says "Deaf" so that people didn't think that she was just disobedient and wow what a change in attitude.
To be fair, I am lucky that she is such a good girl too
