first night
Toby is just over 1 and a half now and we are expecting a new addition to the family during mid june. As most of your fur babies do toby sleeps on and in (normally does this at least 10 times through the night) the bed. Well in preparation for the baby my girl friend has said we need stop this and put a stair gate up so that he sleeps outside yhe room.
Fo r a few months ive been putting this off as I really thought he would hate it as he loves to snuggle. Last week he had the snip somanaged to delay it until last night.
To my surprise he was fine all night. Hes still aloud in the morning so 7am came and we opened the gate. He was straight to the bottom of the bed under the cover snd hasnt moved an inch. So pleased this has gone better than I thought.
Have any of you guys got experience with this situation and a new born.

Re: first night
I'm sorry I don't have any experience with a new born, I'm a Grandmother
but I just wanted to say how much I loved the photo and to wish
you well with the new arrival. I'm sure everything will be fine, all my
Staffies throughout the years have been perfect with my grandchildren.
When I did stop my boy from coming in to bed with me it only lasted
one night, because I was the one we suffered from 'separation anxiety'

I don't have experience but I have heard that it you take something to the hospital and put it on the baby then bring it home and give it to your dog they know the scent for when the baby comes home xx

Re: first night
I introduced the 3 Newborns to my first Stafford Buster. He sniffed and was very curious but was extremely gentle. We never changed anything around the House as we felt that it may make Buster feel like he was being pushed out and potentially cause problems (jealousy). Whenever a Baby cried in the night you used to find Buster standing looking at the Cot with a very concerned "Is he OK?" look on his face. Then return to his/our bed when we attended Baby.
If playing with Buster, and one of the Boys hurt themselves and yelped or cried Buster used to jump back 3 feet looking so concerned it was wonderful. Even though he didn't cause the problem.
It is very dangerous to advise people what to do in this situation because all dogs are different and yiu know your dog best!
However, we never had a single problem. Not once, With all three Babies. Amazing really. Never once even felt an over cautious parental "ooooooh hold on a minute, what's going to happen here" Even when the boys were a bit holder riding Buster around the Lounge shouting "Whoah there, Ride'em Cowboy" . He loved it.
