Water everywhere!?
Hi Guys,
Im after a small bit of advice.
Ruby is 10 months old now, she is a happy little thing, the only main issue I have with her is she just doesn't seem to want to drink.
She comes to work with me and has water in with her, but will only ever have a few drops, we have a bowl in the bedroom, a bowl in her play room and a bowl in the living room but she still hardly touches it.
My other staff has always had a few issues with drinking, if she is on her own for any period of time she won't drink the water we leave for her and will run upstairs to the bedroom and down the whole bowl, we thought it could just be the kitchen tap water she hates but we have tried to change them around by using bath tap water like we do for upstairs.
Molly has always been like this but she will drink if she needs to, we just accept this, but with ruby it is a bit worrying, especially as her poo's can be quite dry. She is on wet food and biscuits, not dehydrated or anything and has always been like this since we got her at 15 weeks.
I dont want to force it down her but am just a tad concerned
Any advice peeps?
Kate

That is odd and not something I've had to deal with before. Have you tried giving ice cubes or freezing a Kong to get water in her system?

I think im going to go with the ice thing, she will drink but not what I think she should. Molly will drink water if I put a teeny drop of milk in, or she thinks I have!!x

Re: Water everywhere!?
I've not come across a dog that won't drink before...My parents Staff once got ill and couldn't keep water down so I made up a load of ice cubes for him and he loved them! Bane also takes much more interest in ice cubes than he does a bowl of water as he can play with it and he can crunch it!
You could also use water from boiling chicken or other meats to add some flavour for her Bane loves boiled chicken water!

I know - its odd. I might try the chicken thing though!! She will drink if she has to but just seems uninterested. She can go all day at work even with a fresh bowl next to her head!x

Re: Water everywhere!?
Max my last foster was lab x and would drink for England but I rarely see Biscuit drink.. She will have a few gulps I it's warm weather or she's been playing but that's about it. She eats wet food though and gets blood with her raw (gross sorry lol) so seems to be hydrated this way. Does she eat dry food?

Re: Water everywhere!?
Hi
To be honest I wouldn't worry too much as long as she seems completely healthy and isn't dehydrated.
Some of my dogs have drank loads of water but my current dog doesn't really seem to drink much at all and he's absolutely fine

Re: Water everywhere!?
She's probably getting all the fluid she needs from the wet food. Check the tin, it will say something like 75% moisture. We only ever fed dry food for that reason.

Re: Water everywhere!?
When Flo had her op she was off the water too. I asked the vet about it and he said as long as its wet food and she's eating then she will drink when thirsty and all was ok.
Forgot to add... She now drinks like a fish
