Counting down the hours to getting my roo bear back :(
Today my little Roo Bear is in having her soft pallet cut away/Shortened.
Dropped her off at 9am, have to wait until this evening to get her back
My house is soooo quite! I actually feel lost!
But, while we were at the vets this morning, we saw the surgeon. Roxys eyes always stream, looks like she's crying. They had originally said the soft pallet op may stop that.
Well, the surgeon has discovered today that her bottom eyelids at the corner are turned in, resulting in her eyelashes constantly poking her in the eye, causing her eyes to run, and he says they are inflamed and have conjunctivitis they couldn't do anything about it today as he said it would be too much for roxy. But she will have to have another op to cut away the folded in part of her eyelid....he said it's quite common. Has anyone else pooch had to have there eyelids cut? How was it?

Love and speedy recovery for Roxy. I expect she will be as glad to get
home as you are to have her back
None of my dogs have ever had eyelid problems but I do know it is
very common and have heard about it before.

Re: Counting down the hours to getting my roo bear back :(
Thanks everyone!
They've just called, she's just come out of surgery, she's in recovery now and I can go and get her at 6pm!!!
I'm glad you said it's common, they told us her elongated soft pallet was common too but we couldn't find anyone who knew anything about it!
Thanks again everyone, she'll be very spoilt once she's home xx

Re: Counting down the hours to getting my roo bear back :(
Hi I hope rocky recovers quickly. Ozzy had the eyelid problem and had an op to sort it out, they cut under the eyelid, pulled it down a bit then sewed it back up. He did nt bother about the stitches at all and had an instant result it was so uncomfortable for him before but he had it before we had him so wasn't insured for it I was very worried Oz was a bit wobbly after the anesthetic but after that he was right as rain, even when they took the stitches out he didn't give a hoot it is very common apparently and very scratchy for them until it's done hope that helps

Get well quickly Roxy.
Ooh that must be so irritating on her eyes, its bad enough if you get a stray eyelash poking you!

Re: Counting down the hours to getting my roo bear back :(
Thanks so much everyone.
She's home now. Dopey, crying a little but generally ok. Currently cuddled up with me! Lots of fuss and cuddles and in sure she'll be fine!
Thanks Sara, so nice to know that another dog has had it done, and was ok! She can't have it just yet as she needs to recover from today's op, but thanks so much!

Yeah Soft food for 10-14 days so the stitches don't get irritated and as her throat is all swollen they said the best is chicken and rice! So that is what she shall have! Plus a few little bits of ham to help get her to take the antibiotics! No treats or anything poor girl x

I have heard about the eyelid problem before and the operation is largely a success, I'm sure she will be fine to have it done once she is over the other op.

Re: Counting down the hours to getting my roo bear back :(
They haven't booked her in yet. They want her to be fully recovered before they start messing with her eyes. They said a couple if months probably!
She's fine today though, bar not really being able to eat, she's back to following people around and playing ball thanks all. Xx
