Re: :D :D
she's a funny one debs, she'll sleep with the lion, snuggle up to him and carry him around but when she's in play mode she manically pulls all of the hair out of his mane and has now destroyed one of his eyes! This is the only soft toy that's lasted the rest she usually rips to shreds, and I got I for a quid in the charity shop lol!

Re: :D :D
Thanks so much for all of the love, Biscuit has had a special day of 3 hour walks in the sunshine and steak for dinner!!! Now snuggled up snoring on the sofa
Aw no worries, Lyn! She did indeed, when she was still in kennels she had a lump removed from her leg which sadly turned out to be a grade 6 malignant melanoma, and another a few months after. I'd been part time fostering her for a few months and the vets gave her 6 months to live due to the aggressiveness of the tumour and the places that it could spread to (lungs and lymph nodes) plus mammary lumps from over breeding. I cried for weeks but adopted her anyway as they wanted her put to sleep that day, and 2 years later here we are xxxxx

What do you think turned it around for Biscuit's health? Do you have any theories

Re: :D :D
Thank you xx The vet that I was working with was really great and made sure that every single little bit of the tumours were excised, as you can see from the scar tissue they were pretty big;
I think early removal possibly helped; they grew in a matter of weeks and were just black and shiny and she chewed at them constantly. But really it's just guessing! I waited for the first 6 months for her to go downhill but she just didn't! After 18 months I stopped holding my breath and now after 2 years I'm accepting that she's super dog

Re: :D :D
Once the swelling went down from her mastitis the mammary lumps were more apparent, but they had a feel around when they spayed her and didn't think they were anything to worry about. They're still there but haven't changed shape and vets have put it down to over breeding!

Re: :D :D
She looks so relieved to have found a peaceful, loving home. It was totally arbitrary that she was rescued, that somebody bothered to give her an operation and that she wound up in a good home. Do you think diet had anything to do with it and do you know how many litters she'd had?
Cancer in younger mammals develops extremely quickly but can also resolve itself better as the body at that age is firing on all pistons.
It's amazing that cancer is still such a mystery to us. Where it comes from and who it afflicts and for what reasons is still baffling.

Re: :D :D
I was very lucky to be working at the dogs home at the time; she was dumped off in the busy reception by a rather unsavoury human being who claimed to have found "it" and was laughing and joking whilst she was wide eyed, terrified and barking at everything.. don't think she'd been in the world very often. So I have no previous background for her, estimated age on arrival was 2 years, I think she'd probably had a litter every season. She was immediately put on the "PTS" list by my boss as initially we couldn't get anywhere and she was showing signs of aggression, so she had 7 days before being sedated and killed.
Luckily, I was running the isolation unit and just kept "forgetting" to sedate her to try and buy her time. Eventually I convinced my boss to let me take her on as a project; if she didn't improve in a few weeks she could be put to sleep. The staff there had a big grudge against her, why, I don't know, and were rallying for her to be put to sleep because they were scared of her. If I wasn't in work, she didn't get walked. The rest of the battle is a verrryyy long story, but she's here now and I don't work there anymore.
Cancer is such a complicated topic, and I know very little about it, due to not being able to research enough information! She was being fed chappie and tesco value complete in kennels so don't think diet helped, though she went onto raw when she came to me. I just count our blessing on a daily basis She's an absolute darling, and we've been through so much! I love her far too much!

Well, I've posted about this elsewhere but if you have any advice as to how to stop my dog from suddenly having a go at other males, I'd be v grateful. He's three. Neutered. I've had him for two years and this is very new. I don't like it!

Wow Rachel, high praise to you, and to think the vets wanted to put her to sleep! Just goes to show what love and happiness does for your well being, in this case being Biscult. Shes so lucky to have you as her mummy.
