NEW MEMBER TO SITE
Hi,
This site is awesome.
We are are Cass and Markus and our joy is Ty, he's 16 months old and a real charmer.
He's so affectionate but like dogs and bitches of his breed had his quirks and we've loads to learn about him.
He was my son's dog and since Dominic can't look after him any more because of his illness we have taken Ty in with us.
The last thing we wanted was a dog, let alone one that hadn't been trained or had much interaction with people,, but now we have him we wouldn't be without him..
We hope to get and give as much help as we can.
Ty has recently moved onto Raw dog meat over the past 10 days and he is already showing good signs in his general health and especially his allergy skin,,, it's less red and going to pink now,,
Thanks for reading i love my Ty

Re: NEW MEMBER TO SITE
Thank you for your welcome Sazzle,
Daisy looks a dream,
Well not having a dog in over 25 years i found it all a bit stressful to start with, but he's settled in well, he doesn't chew at anything, he behaves at home but we are having trouble when taking him out..
More with the other dog owners than the dogs to be honest,, the dogs would be fine if they were allowed to make contact but owners drag their animal away startled by Ty,,,
not all but the majority,,, it's a shame as Ty is desperate to play lol,, oh well,, we'll just have to get well exercised at the same time,,
Thanks again

Re: NEW MEMBER TO SITE
Have you tried using a training line? He can have a run about without being off lead, I use them and have a 30f and 50f one.

Re: NEW MEMBER TO SITE
Now this is what i mean by what a great help being on here is sazzle lol,
Is that the same as a retractable line?
where he runs off and you can recall the line in when you want him back?
If so, the answer is yes he had one which he broke,,
Are there different strengths of training line?
Perhaps you might be able to recommend one for me please

Re: NEW MEMBER TO SITE
No problem at all not like am extender lead, although I also use one of those! Like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DOG-HORSE-TRAINING-LEADS-5FT-10FT-15FT-20FT-25FT-30FT-40FT-50FT-65FT-80FT-100FT-/140987430180?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Kitchen_Steamers_Cookers_PP&var=&hash=item20d3817524
You can hold on to the end or ideally just let it trail but you can still get hold of them easily, great for teaching recall or for dogs who can't go off lead

Re: NEW MEMBER TO SITE
Hello Jeff and Maya, pretty name by the way,,
Funnily enough we moved counties last april and Aylesbury is still quite new to us,,,
Ty came to us in Septemebr time last year and we've found out a lot more of our locality through taking him different walks,,
There is a lovely park for dogs here and Ty loves it there but other owners let the dogs run free,, no problem with that,, but when they come to play with Ty it's like he's a devil,, we have a few Staffy's locally but the owners don't want to know,,
Hence wondering if there was any members local to Aylesbury lol,,
thinking it would be great for ty,,,

Re: NEW MEMBER TO SITE
Hello Cass, and Ty
Welcome to the site. I was very happy to read you had not only rescued a Staffy but fallen in love with him too.
Convincing other people that your Staffy is nice, is something I think everyone here has been through. I think back to before I had Staffies - yes, I was frightened of them too. So, in a way, you can understand it. Becoming a Staffy owner means becoming a one person pro-Staffy pr campaign.
These are things that have helped me:
1) Giving Rupert a red collar. Somehow people seem to warm to him more.
2) Dressing a bit posher than I otherwise would. Blowdrying my hair! I know other people on here who wear Tweeds and Wellington boots. It's all about the image.
3) Instead of using commands like "no!" and "stop!" I do a lot of "good boy!! and "come! in a friendly happy voice.
4) Work out which dogs are best suited to play with your staffy. Very small breeds don't do it for Rupert. Whippets/lurchers, boxers, other Staffies, Ridgebacks do.
5) Some owners don't let their dogs play with any other dogs. So don't take it personally.
6) Come equipped with fun stuff like balls and treats
7) Be patient. Not every dog will hit it off with yours. But he will make friends.
I am totally delighted, also, that you are switching to raw. Love to hear feedback. I feed R raw. Why did you decide to switch?
