New here HELLO
Hi
I have just adopted a Staffy Cross Jack Russel. I think he has more staffy in him. He's an amazing little fella - only 10 months. Came from a home where he was being beaten by an Autistic girl. We rescued him last week and what a joy he is to have in our home. The most gentle little thing ever. We were expecting a few problems with him and we prepared for this, but hes such a good boy.
I'm assuming this forum isnt just for full pedigree staffy owners and cross breeds are welcome?
We do have one minor problem with him - He is house trained and has never poo'd in the house or pee'd He only does this on walks! - which is excellent. We wont have a back yard or garden only a front yard and refuses to do his business there. I have to walk him to the park before he will go and do his business. Now, this isnt a problem as I walk him 3 times a day but I would like to know if there are any training tips you could give me to help me make him "go" on command.
Ive tried saying "wee wee" when he goes and praising him, but when I ask him in the front yard he refuses
Any advice would be great!
This seems like a great forum and look forward to chatting with you all!

Re: New here HELLO
Hi from me and Alfie. Yes all welcome, we think Alfie is a cross.
Do you have grass in your garden? Some wont go on certain surfaces so if its concrete for example he may prefer to go on grass. Mine is the opposite and will not go when we are out, not even a wee! Lol

Re: New here HELLO
Hi and welcome from me and Daisy, well done on rescuing Arnie
Of course crosses are welcome
What I would do is each time he is doing his business start saying your toilet phrase and repeat it until he has finished, then lots of praise, eventually he will associate the phrase with what he needs to do.

Re: New here HELLO
Hi and welcome from us and Suki.
You can try to either get a urine scented spray to place on the grass or use his own urine after he has gone outside. This normally works and is how we got Suki to use our yard.

Re: New here HELLO
Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Some dogs are a bit shy about soiling their own territory, Rocky is a bit like this and will usually hold it until we are at the park. Keep going with the commands you are using, he may get the message eventually.
