Its only Me!
Hi guys, girls and furbabies!
My Name is Jojo, often referred to as Freak and more than not you'll find in away with the fairies.....its a nicer place to be LOL!
I've never owned a dog before but knew that every Staffy I met was loving and playful and my kind of animal! I married my bestfriend in 2005 but due to my health issues and the fact he is a lot older than me we will never have kids, I have (mostly!) come to terms with this! My hubbies BM had 2 staffs, male and female, which they bred late 2005! (female was stolen and later found being used as a bait dog! This is a sick world sometimes! ) 3am on january 9th 2006 I received a phone call from them as they couldn't handle all the 'mess' that came with the birthing of a litter! So we rushed over to help and was given the privilege of taking first choice of the puppies as a thank you and a late Wedding present! My darling Eddie was 3rd born, 1st one with any markings! He has been our baby ever since!
At that time I was working 60 hr weeks and my hubby was working from home so he was able to train him and I'm so proud of how he has turned out! My friends that are now having kids use him as an introduction to dogs (never left alone though......I wouldn't do that with any animal, kids are so unreliable and its a dogs nature to attack if attacked!!) He is a long legged long muzzled Staff! With both Parents being KC registered and a great line from the fathers side (CrossGuns!). In 2008 my health got worse and I became housebound and wasn't expected to live past 2010....but I'm a stubborn cow and I'm still here, even if I'm not the person I was! Over the past few years my Eddie has been my companion, my shoulder to cry on and some days he's been my reason to live not just exist! He knows when I'm in pain and was so gentle when I eventually came home from a life saving op, minus about 60% of my intestinal tract, he often just lays his head next to my Stoma bag if I'm feeling bad! Almost like a hot pack that I used to use before!
2 weeks ago, after a Drs appointment, I was almost knocked over by a whirling dervish outside a shop! She was followed by a very harassed (Ive since found out also disabled!) lady who was screeching at this dog! Now the one thing I was told to do with my Eddie was to lower my voice tone and stay calm but I don't think this lady was able to stay calm as she was being chased by a shop owner who was screaming that she hadn't paid! The lady was screaming the dogs name, Lola, so I sat on the ground and in a low calm voice I called her! This beautiful staff came bouncing over and sat straight down giving me the 'eyes'! I instantly fell in love with her!
I found out that Lola is a 7 month old Staff (of questionable parents!) She was bought off a neighbour who only had the Mother! There is no history known apart from they are quite positive the mother is 100% staff! Lola, as with any puppy at this age but especially staffs, is a bit hyperactive and needs a lot of interaction with very few rest breaks! The family she was with consisted of 2 kids under the age of 7, disabled Mum and a long distance lorry driver dad in a 3rd floor 2 bed flat! She had chewed walls, cupboards, the TV and in fact anything she could get her mouth around. The Dad gets up at 5 and took her down to the street for a 5 min walk and the mother would take her to the school and back which was about 5 mins from their home and that was so 'difficult' for her that more than not Lola was put in her cage whilst the kids were collected..................Strange then that this poor puppy was chewing eh??? I do wonder why people don't look into the breeds before they buy? I wouldn't even want a small breed in a 3rd floor flat let alone an energetic dominant breed like a staff!
Anyway whilst I sat on the floor with this now quite relaxed (for a puppy anyway!) dog, I offered a few suggestions at how the lady could manage her a bit better.......training school, toys to chew (mine was always an empty plastic bottle lover!!) Socialising with other dogs etc these were all met with an excuse as to why these couldn't be done! My last suggestion was........get her spayed, the chances are she would calm down a bit although there's no promise of that! My heart broke when out of the mouth of this lady came If I F**king take her to the Vets again she can F**king stay there! We all know the fate of most Staffs in the pound and as yet (although its being built now) we don't have a dogstrust anywhere near! I knew I was looking at a condemned dog!
Trying to cut the story short...She has now been with us for 2 weeks! Yes she's manic but no more than Eddie was! Yes she has attempted to chew, but sofa has been replaced by teething toys! Yes she can sometimes be a bit 'deaf' but she's learning with the help of Eddie! Yes I have fallen completely in love with her!
Thing is I'm now at home full time and hubby is now at work, long hours, so I get to train her! Which is good as she will have to get used to the fact I can't always walk them for long, that she cannot pull me at all (I'm thinking about doing dog training so I can have professional help teaching her and me to enjoy a walk without causing me damage!)! But what I love most is the fact that when Hubby is here and Eddie can no longer see past him I now get evening cuddles with my little girl!
Whilst her previous home wasn't ideal and the humans were quite negligent (not nasty just naive I think!) about her she was Loved in their own way, on the day we collected her the man almost cried and I have received texts evry other day asking about her, she wants to come visit but we have said no at the moment as it wouldn't be fair on Lola! Lola is so loving and quite intelligent as she's learning quickly! Her life here will be so much more suitable, we have a big garden with a dog flap in the door!
I was a bit worried at first as Eddie was really sulking about having this little hurricane invade his space and interrupting his naps, he refused to play with either us or her and was quite distant but 3 days ago I got worried as it had gone quiet but when I looked they were both cudddled up in Eddies bed!
So for a house that was never gonna hear the sound of tiny pitter patter of feet we now hear 4 pairs! Almost Constantly! I love my little family!
Sorry, This is rather long! xxxxxx
