i think this is a good move by the centre, only 15% of visitors really interested,do people go and see these poor dogs just for a day trip out,it must stress some of them out

Re: Changes to Centre Access at Wood Green
Glad to see that other kennels are following suit. The first kennels I worked at were horrendous and allowed public viewing.. The dogs were so stressed and people used to bring their families in like a day out at the zoo! Managed to get them to close half of the kennels so that the really screwy dogs could live peacefully but people still used to sneak in and wind them up. The next shelter I worked at was closed to the public and the difference was incredible! The kennels were actually quiet and the dogs self harmed much less. You could also actually work with them because they weren't constantly stressed to the eyeballs and unable to learn! Nice to hear

Re: Changes to Centre Access at Wood Green
Yeah honestly, people used to bring their kids to the centre and let them wind the dogs up like they were at the zoo. We'd ask if they were interested in adopting and they'd just say "nah, we're just here looking around." SO frustrating when you've got a dog that's already going nuts in their kennel, at times scared out of their wits. I convinced them to shut off the inside of the kennels at least in the still public areas, so the dogs have some privacy but people would still go inside even with signs to say to keep out. That job was just infuriating.
