Hi/HELP!! Empty Hi/HELP!!

Post by Amipopzzz Sat May 14 2011, 15:41

Hi im a new member to this site with a rescue staffy, weve had him for about a year and think he's about 3 years old, hes a great dog and we love him loads.
However weve been thinking of introducing another dog to our family, and have seen another staff in the same rescue center we got henry from, our only problem is Henry hasnt been castrated and feels the need to 'love' everything.

we took henry to see her and they got on great except for him 'loving' her which she didnt like! im confused as to what to do! help please x

Yeah i think we would have to to be fair, but i don't see it calming him down all that much with him being 3 already x we can tell shes had a litter already so they would both need 'doing' x

I'm suprised they hadn't had the op before they re-homed them, I'm not too sure but I think it will help. And being 3, I don't think Staffies ever calm down, whatever age they are!! Wekcome to the forum btw!! Nice one on re-homing Big Grin

Well unfortunately the bitch in the center has been taken by someone else, she was too beautiful to hesitate really, i think we'll keep looking around and get henry castrated and let him calm down a bit etc. He's a brilliant dog and a great addition to our family.

Thanks for the welcome =D xx

Henry is great with people will only 'love' when he gets too excited, but hes not so good with other dogs, because he doesn't care if its male or female or absolutely huge he just wants it.
he had a male German Shepard cowed on the field so he could get on the back!!

He enjoys a nice leather handbag aswell lol =) x

Pity you missed out on the other dog, but maybe it was not meant to be yet. I'm sure the right one is just around the corner praying

The trouble with him is he has the urge to mate but as he hasnt, anything will do. Now a dog that is used probably wouldnt bother cause he knows what to do and when to do it. Having him castrated would probably calm him down a little he may still do it occasionally but its not really fair to bring another into your home to be sexually attacked like this Big Grin

Hi & welcome!
I'm surprised that your boy wasn't neutered when you rescued him, or was it a private rescue?

I would definitely consider getting him castrated, as otherwise you'll be having problems all the time, and it won't be very nice for any companion you bring in, and could possibly lead to a fight.

Be aware, though, that the 'urges' will take a while to disappear as the testosterone levels take a while to leave his system. Please also be aware, that if it is a 'habit' then castration may not stop it and only training will do the trick. If I were you, I'd start the training now, so that when/if you get him neutered, you'll have a head start!
