Need help with two year old grumpy git
Ok bit of background info to start with. I had my Harry at 8 weeks with his sister at 9 months the pair started fighting really bad to the point of drawing blood unfortunately I had to rehome the bitch and kept Harry. He is such a funny little boy he has normal staffy temperament funny, soft and huggable he is boisterous but still young, loves everyone who comes in our home and is very very affectionate. Only issue is barking at dogs during walks so I have become midnight walker
On Tuesday we had to rescue a 5 week old puppy due
to neglect. Upon bringing puppy home we had teeth hackles etc so we took puppy (in crate) out the situation and have been easing them in gently. Through the crate when pup is asleep he sniffs wags tail etc all Norml doggy stuff however behind stair gate he just does one very loud bark and like a long winded moan. Rightly or wrongly I ignore it and remove the pup.
What I'm trying to get at is cuz he barking and a tiny bit of growling but no teeth showing do I let them meet face to face? I'm scared he will bite puppy it's a confidence thing with me I think. Harry has same routine still has run of house fed first walked, fuss play etched nothing has changed. We have read that many websites about body language but he gives nothing away one min he tiny growling n barking and moaning them he huffs and sods off we have approaces a few experts and trainers but keep getting diff info thanks in advance x

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me
Would be a better idea to have the two meet up on neutral ground first maybe at a local park.

Re: Need help with two year old grumpy git
hia from me and sasha normally the best way to introduce a new dog to the another dog is on neutral ground and to walk them together, your pup being so young cant go out yet so you cant do that, how is Harry with other dogs besides barking at them?

Re: Need help with two year old grumpy git
Have you got a family members house you could go to with the puppy and him? Maybe hold the puppy while on the sofa without making a fuss that pup is there or something and just let Harry sniff around? If he gets too excited or starts to look as if he would jump up, take him away and then try again when he's calm?
When Bane was too young to walk, we carried him places so he could see different things and get used to the noises. Maybe you could carry pup while walking Harry? Let him know he's there, but he will be focused on walking and not so bothered by pup, might allow them to bond slightly and get Harry used to idea of having pup around?

Re: Need help with two year old grumpy git
Hi and welcome from Tip and me. Can't be of much help as we had our dogs at first meet on neutral ground. Sasha the rottweiler was a rescue and I had to (after we got Tip home) supervise their interaction. Now at six months Tip learned to leave our grumpy Sasha alone.
Good luck from us

Re: Need help with two year old grumpy git
Walk on lead next to.each other on nutral ground try to create a bond and connection on walks always recognise the dominant dog and attend him first by that see who submits first so who will put his face in ur hand first for the food and whill.turn away.n bk off. Or who will b agreasive first. It is confidence aswell as I always have the mentality Im.not asking your doing. So my dogs dare not go against.me lol not through fear I jus base my training on ceaser milian. So calm assertive changing your mannor n body lanquegege to show the dog wat u want. Like wen u fuss a dog tu go.high.pitch smile and playful.wen u discpipline u take ur stants stand proud and change tone of voice a correct the behaviour according. Soo.many diff techniques out there to train your dogs and sociallise your dogs. A growl can lead to.agression jus as excitment can lead to agression. All I suggest is watxhing dog whisperer and finding a trainer who welcomes those methods. Trainers arw different and ive come across bad ones lol

Re: Need help with two year old grumpy git
I wouldn't take much notice of Cesar Milan to be honest, his methods are out dated and have been disproved.
I only have Axl so I can't be much help to you but I would try Bane's advice above and maybe you can try to introduce Harry to the pup but keep Harry on the lead and keep hold of the pup and have someone with you ready to grab Harry's lead if he takes a disliking?
I do think you will need to take things very slowly and gently ease the pup into Harry's life
(edited to correct spelling)
