Please help!!
Hi everyone.
Ok so my staffie girl phoebe is I would say 9/10 years old. We rescued her so don't know correct age. But lately she isn't sleeping at night. She's very restless. Can't get comfortable. Waking us up at night, nothing has changed, 2x good walks a day, food is the same. She's still happy as soon as it comes to bed time she is wide awake and not in a playful way more so destressing. She isn't in a crate she has the run of the house like she always has only the last 2 weeks she's been playing up and it's so upsetting to see her like that. Plus we are getting no sleep!
Please help. If u know what it could be or had a similar experience
Thank u x

Re: Please help!!
Maybe pop along to the vet for an eye test, if she is starting to loose her sight it may be more stressful at nightime for her as she will get disorientated.

Re: Please help!!
So sorry to hear that you are worried about Phoebe.
If she has previously slept well throughout the night but now can't seem to get comfortable, the something is bothering her (and we all know how little niggles and pains seem worse at night, especially as we get older )
The easiest and most probable reason is that as Phoebe is now getting to be an older lady, she has less control over her bladder than previously. Obviously you let her out for a wee last thing at night before you all go to bed, but it may be worth trying letting her out for another wee when she wakes you in the night.
If this doesn't settle her, then tbh honest in your place I'd take her to vet for checkover; she may have something hurting her (like arthritis for example) that she can ignore during the day when she's up and about, but disturbs her sleep (like my arthritic knee does!)
Do keep us updated, and sending you all best wishes to getting Phoebe more comfortable at night.

Cannot add to the advice above, could be any one of those things. May be best to pop her along to vets for a check over xxx

Re: Please help!!
perhaps the stupid fireworks from before Nov 5th to new year upset her? i know they did mine and they end up with strange association sometimes.

Re: Please help!!
Thank you for all your comments and advice. I will be taking her to the vets and sorting out her problem. She's following me everywhere which she normally would do but not 24/7. I'm so worried as I understand she is getting older!
Her walks are about 30 mins long in morn and vary at night depending on the weather!
She used to sleep all night

Re: Please help!!
Awful night with pheb - worst one yet.
When I went to bed, she would come run on the bed and sit by my face shaking, I took her back to her bed and again she came back up. I then settled her and fell asleep on the sofa myself and after half hour went back to bed 10 mins later she followed me, so again I took her back down stairs and she wouldn't settle for an hour were talking 3am now!
When she did it was for half hour back up stairs again.
She hasn't slept much and neither have I. I can only take her to the vets Friday due to work commitments etc in the mean time I just don't know what to do. I'm dreading night times!
Someone said something about maybe she's in heat but she has been done ? Can she still have similar things go on?
Any advice is brill thank u x

Re: Please help!!
The DAP spray is very good, we use it when the fireworks are being let off, it is available on line, it's a spray which contains pheramones similar to which a dogs mother would give off and has a very calming effect:

You could also try the Thundershirt also available on line:

Re: Please help!!
Oh I am so sorry poor Phoebe, something is obviously bothering her. I believe the thundershirts (which is just like a jacket) works very well and also the spray. Anything is worth a try but hopefully the vet will give her a good check over.
Failing if you cant get to PAH for any of these is there something of your clothing you could cut for her legs to go through and across her back maybe tightish fitting. It may help her to feel more secure and especially if your smell is on there.
Let us know how you get on xxx

Re: Please help!!
Are you able to put her bed in your bedroom with you to see if she settles better. My Pixee just wont settle anywhere but in our bedroom in her own bed. Good luck at the vets. Theres also a collar that does the same as the spray, http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003SZ8QXM/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1/278-2103884-2149156?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_r=1XDPE62NV7NPTEQT258K&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_i=B0038XDG4S. Fingers cross you get her sorted. x

Re: Please help!!
We always let her in our bedroom but she isn't keeping still there either it's only when I go down stairs and sleep on the sofa with her she settles down. And after 10 mins of changing positions she finally falls into a light sleep. She always used to sleep in her bed them about 6am come to be bedroom to wake us up lol!! Something is wrong just worrying what it could be.
She is shaking quite a lot which I don't know why that could be. That spray sounds good ill look into that ASAP. Thank you

Re: Please help!!
If you can't get hold of the spray and they have a DAP collar do try that, we used one on Rocky too and it works.

Re: Please help!!
Poor Phoebe (and knock on effect, poor you!).
Something is worrying her (shaking) - can you pinpoint as to when this started? Will she sleep in your bed with you and stop shaking when she's there?
