Car rides Empty Car rides

Post by AussieStaff Sat Jan 11 2014, 21:28

Koda loves going in the car, but refuses to get out when we get home. He runs to the opposite side from where I am trying to get him out, pushes back, grips on for dear life as I drag him out, have had the occassional growl at me. Has anyone else experienced this ? I take him in the car every 2 or 3 days (can't wait til I can walk him !!!!).

Spud is the opposite he's desperate to get out with me even if I only nip into a shop, but when I come back he's back on his seat, but can only take him certain place as like you can't walk him yet so gotta go to my mums, work or home somewhere he can go to toilet, Smile

Oh Mark that's funny because when I first took him to the shops I looked at him in the back, quickly opened my door and got out at lightening speed slamming it shut before he could get out, looked through the back window & he was laying down in the middle of the seat - no intention of running off at all !!  Laughing  Awww poor Darcy !

Yes , Roxi does the same , i sometimes get dizzy going round the car to every door as she moves out of my reach :-) , what i do now is tempt her with a treat , leave the car door open and go to walk away and more often than not she eventually follows :-)

Daisy goes in crate in the boot, she gets in fine (I always give her a treat once she's in) and is glad to come out!

I sometimes have to lift Lola out as she's got herself all snuggled up and warm and cosy - she's getting a bit heavy for that now though!!

Car rides Empty car

Post by silver Sun Jan 12 2014, 09:47

I have a car crate, and have always travelled my dogs in it. I think they feel safe and secure, just my opinion.
Toots is snuggled in her blankets and so far has travelled really well.
On of my staffs in the past hated getting out of the car too lol. Just have to gently insist!

Do you have a small squeaky toy you could take with you ?, this may help to distract him and get him out of the car.

Thistle will only get in with a treat, she gets out fine, I have her in the boot because she chewed the seat belts, but now I can't leave her unattended in the boot because she chewed through the carpet and ate all the wiring for the lights, I'm saving up for a crate that 'collapses' to the shape of my boot, a conventional crate won't fit.
